GRANA here; Just finished b book about a naive rural French girl who after rnning away from home w/ a young man, ends up pregnant & working in a brothel. It folows her life from 185_ til 1871; through THE FRANCO-PRUSSIAN WAR; the rise& fall of Napolean Bonaparte 3 with a glimpse of how unmarried women survived in those days epeciallyw/ a child & no husband., Political &police corruption, rationing , food & fuel & housing shortages ; poverty , betrayal & friendship . Hubby just brought home2 more ibrary books, which I have not yet glimpsed at:The RED BOOK BY deborah Copaken Koogan & "t he PROPOSAL " by Mary Balough ; one of the 2 will be my next " READ"
