My dog Romeo loves to play fetch and sometimes he tosses his own toys up and catches them.He is very hard on his toys and his raw hide bones both only last him a few days .I started tying an empty 20o

Gale, You got your puppy!!!! Awesome!!! We have a black and white cat that we call Princess. Her spots are just like a black and white cow[holstein]. She has short stocky legs and is wide like a cow. We sometimes call her our cow cat. Can you tell I was raised on a dairy farm? I am so happy that you got her. She is maybe a pound!!! How big will she get???

They said she will be around 8#? The minute I saw her I started calling her Moo Moo,we did however name her Juliet,Romeo loves her.The funny thing is not knowing her Mom,is named Moo Moo LOL!She is black and white with brown eyebrows. So cute, last night Romeo and Juilet were lounging on the recliner together, with me .You were raised on a dairy farm, that's neat.We used to go to Pa.to see my aunt at their trailer and we always went to buy milk at the near by dairy farm.I have milked a cow before.I always wished I could live on a farm.I know that I would have been happy doing that.

Gale,  We used to squirt milk at the cats in the barn. They would stand there with their mouths open catching
the milk. We got pretty good at it, but you had to be careful that the cow didn't get mad and try to kick you.
The best cream comes from a Jersey cow{brown} and my mom would make the best whipping cream with it.
The closest you can get to that now is with the Amish. When I go back to MI in the fall, a friend and I always
go to Middlebury, Indiana to the Das Dutchman Essenhaus to have their red raspberry cream pie. We also go
to the Amish cheese factory. I also always buy another Amish cookbook!!! Enjoy that little puppy!!!!

The kids at the dairy farm we went to used to do the same thing with the cows! LOL That milk was so good, store bought milk doesn't taste that good.I can just imagine the cream.I make my own ricotta cheese too bad I can't get my hands on that good milk and cream. We go to Amish country to I love their chicken and pies and all of it.My son and daughter in law took me this last summer and I hope to go again this summer. If I ever win the lottery that is where I'm moving. That is a great place to find cookie cutters too!

Gale, I have to say that is probably the luckiest puppy on the face of the earth.  I am sure that she is as much in love with your family as you are smitten with her.
I am sure she will Romeo in line. It is so funny watching a little one and an older one play.  The puppy starts running and the other one chases. The Kitchen has been turned into a obstacle course.

I'm sure that your puppy is lucky also, how could someone not love them.My two were running around together also.I do have to supervise because he is 25 times bigger than her.He has been very gentle with her and she has no fear of him.I really think we both did the right thing finding playmates for our dogs.My husband just said awhile ago,who do you think will rule this house? lol

hee hee .... when my cats were tiny kitties one would chase the other the entire floor plan of the condo ..... When they reached the "end" the chased one would fly up in the air and SCREAM.  The other would fly up, scream and turn around, taking off at full speed with the chased one chasing to the other end of the floor plan.   Back and forth until all of use were exhausted.

Gale & Nikki  -   It's great to have new additions to your families and you can post the fun things that happen so we, too, can enjoy hearing about your new liitle LOVES.  They make such a difference in lives and mine is one with my Maltese, Cooper.  If I lived in the country, I probably would have many more, if I could afford to take care of them.

Carol, I live 45 minutes from Shipshewana and Middlebury, IN.  They are 10 minutes apart.  Recently, ate at Das Dutchman Essenhous and had their Chocolate - Peanut Butter Pie!!  My friend said she has the recipe, but I did not get it yet.  There is a Mercantile Mart, three stories, in Shipshewana with other stores surrounding blocks to, also, shop.  Lots of things you do not see everywhere.  Antiques, clothing, lace curtains, fabric, quilts, some food, etc.  So when you visit try to find some extra time to visit Shipshewana, IN, you will not regret it. And downtown there is a large fabric store and the flea market and Auction on scheduled days.

DiAnne, We go to the Mercantile Mart, E and S Sales is my favorite with their bulk items and other goodies, and there is a
bakery that we went to the last time that had a cashew crunch that was awesome!! The cheese factory is half way in between
Middlebury and Shipshe. We always have the Essenhaus's chicken. It's about a 2 and1/2 hour drive for us. If you know of
anything else in that area that would be interesting, let me know!! Thanks for the info!!

Hi Nancy,I think that is so great that you adopted the two of them together.I left Rocky's sister at the pound when I adopted him and I have regreted that for 15 years.I just didn't have the money back then ,the kids were little and I already had Kelly my Border Collie and the two cats Lucky and Ditto.I just keep hoping that someone adopted her.She was small and our APL is a no kill shelter so all I can do is hope, but I do wish I had adopted her too.You have given Badcat and Peaches a wonderful life and in turn they love you and give you much joy.Our cat Lucky just showed up here that was the big 23# cat.He wasn't fixed so I had that done ,we didn't need 100 kittens running around out there.I was calling Lucky, Bull at first because he was huge.My youngest asked me why, mommy do you call the kitty Bull and I told him because he is so big.He said I think he is lucky that we are keeping him.So that is how Bull became Lucky.

When I went to the humane society "to look" I looked too hard.  I told the Cat Lady I wanted kittens no one else would take and she took me to the back room .... a litter of sad looking kittens 8-10 weeks old, absolutely riddled by fleas and ear mites.  They had been born outside near a barn and had never seen a human until somebody picked them up and took them to the society.
Dear, precious, wonderful animals .... we need each other.

Carol, I went in Jan, 2011 but went through it, seems like, so fast it got all computerized together in my brain.  E & S I probably went in but can't remember.  The clothing store had jackets of all kinds, real great quality and unusual for 50% off.  Of course, I bought one!   Love to go back soon.

Off the top of my head I don't know of things other than the Auction, I think, on Tuesday?  Flea market outside just next to auction area.  My friend stopped, in Middlebury at a butcher shop where they specialize in making ribs, only, on Thursdays.  Best to pre-order.  They were out early in afternoon!  I'll ask my friend and post some interesting ideas as we think of them.  She works at a bank and floats to that area often.

Carol one more thing is that some people stay at Essenhaus or there are other hotels in Shipse just because they can't do everything in one day.  I know we couldn't, but I live so close. You probably already knew this.    Who would expect such a marvelous place such as Essenhaus in a little town like Middlebury?

My German Shepherd loved asparagus.  We have some growing by the garden.  Not a lot and it never comes up all at the same time so there is never enough to make a meal.  So I would let her eat the asparagus.  She would run over to it and nibble it down to the ground before I could even get to it.  So even if I wanted to eat some I didn't get the chance.  She also took tomatoes off the plants as well as nibbling on swiss chard, zucchini, cucumbers and green beans.  It is a wonder we were able to get anything from the garden ourselves.

Up date on the most recent addition, Hana has a case of ear mites that have had me going since I got her home.  Luckily Vienna has not had a problem and the cats stay away so they are safe.  I have her ears pretty much cleared up now but they are still a bit red and irritated.  I know it will take a while.

Years ago I was at my Mom's and I had just gotten some tomatoes from my mom's garden and I was washing them .My brothers dog was sitting there and crying,I said silly dog there is nothing here that you would like.My brother tells me she picks the tomatoes off the vine and eats them, so I gave her some.My dogs love salad and some fruits,my Vet warned me not to give them anything that you would find in a fruit salad so I don't give them any fruit now, better to be safe than sorry. Our dogs when we were growing up used to sit by the stove when my mom was cooking beets and cry,so of course they had some too.If you want to give your pets something that it is different it is better to check with your vet first. Some things that we eat are very toxic to our pets.I do give them bones, like the big knuckle bones you use in soup but only under supervision and I'm bad I was given them rawhide also but then I did supervise them.In the summer for a cool treat give them ice cubes or a frozen bone they like that too.
