We used to celebrate Washington and Lincoln's birthdays only and on separate days.

I remember those days...it was nice to have a day off in the middle of the week!  Alas, now we perpetually have the long weekend, which is nice, I guess, but I still think Washington and Lincoln deserve their own days!

I think that it is funny how thru the years most of the holidays have "moved" to Monday.  I don't know a lot about presidents.  I am not a big history fan.  I don't get the day off either....

I have to agree, it's just another day off for school kids not to mention government employees and most banks.  If you were to ask the school kids I think most of them wouldn't know why they are off LOL.

I think they should go back to Lincoln and Washington  each having their own holiday.  That's the way it was years ago.

My son, who is an AP high school math teacher was supposed to be off on Friday and today for the holiday.  Since they had two days to make up, they did not have off on Friday and today.  In fact today was kind of iffy because we had more snow.  Ended up having a delayed opening.  We are supposed to get more snow tonight.  We shall see what happens in the morning.  If they get any more snow days they will take away their Easter vacation.

My other son works at a college and they had work Friday and today.

Know some info about the presidents.

Three day holidays...especially MLK and President's Day is a plus for us, because we often get rentals at our Condo at Tahoe.

Hey VBB, you should have had some cherry recipes up for President's Day instead of rushing St Pat's when it is not even March. Shame on you.

Erica,
It is so hard to go with the changes! It seems that the traditions have fallen by the wayside. Most of the younger people don't even know why we celebrat Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, etc. It is just a day to go shopping for sales or an extra day off.

I think we should celebrate each of our presidents Birthday as a reminder to who's who in All American History.  I also believe that we should not take the day off from school or work but to just remember who's Birthday it is and educate ourselves on that person.  Can you imagine all those days off in a year not to mention all the other Holidays we have on the calendar already.  We would never get anything done with all that time off.  Oh we don't get anything done as it is we just mottle through.
