Nellie --- I'm praying for all the people in that area.  I was especially scared when I just heard "Texas" ...... I know that's a huge state but I was worried about your  location.

The reports of the explosion were pushed out of the major news reports because of Boston.  I am praying for the families and victims.
I hope none of our members had friends and or family that were effected.

Praying for the folks in Texas affected by the fertilizer plant explosion.  Thankful that the first account of possible fatalities was corrected to a far lower number, but still tragic.   Any loss of life is sad and touchs many other lives beside the immediate family.

nancy and nikki
I know it was pushed aside, especially yesterday
it's a scary situation and reminds me of the aftermath of Katrina    when people were reporting seeing bodies floating  and it was denied for days      until the cold light provided by the reporters made it in  and showed us the truth

on wed nite the fire chief told the reporters that there were 60-70 bodies
on thurs morn the powers that be said there were only 5 and maybe as many as 15
on fri morn the mayor said were not finished with s and r but had 35 bodies, later the powers still insisted on 15 and when reporters asked about what the mayor had reported they said that they needed to ask the mayor about that
later the 15 bodies  almost all volunteer firemen and emergency responders were i.d.'d and delivered to funeral homes
and even according to the president's speech last night there are many still unaccounted for

but  texas is a Very business friendly state   they don't really inspect these places      and this morn
NBCNEWS.com is reporting that the plant had 1,350 times the amount of this chemical that would have triggered an oversight

it's not near me (140 mi), but I do feel their pain,  I too depend on these brave volunteers   we pay an emer dist tax on our taxes but they have to beg for every penny  because the state has lots of places to spend the money

West Fertilizer Co. Failed To Disclose It Had Unsafe Stores Of Explosive Substance

According to report in the Houston chronicle yesterday
West fertilizer company is a retail facility that sells directly to local farmers. Regulators consider such facilities minor sources of air pollution, un-like coal-fired power plants and oil refineries, and thus not subject to routine inspections.
the west facility opened in 1962 but did not obtain a permit until 2006, after a neighbor complained of a strong ammonia odor. Tx Comm of env.Quality (TCEQ)  nor federal inspectors did not visit the facility again before the blast.
the agency calls it a permit, but it is basically just a registration. There is no scrutiny at all
west fertilizer told regulators in 2011 that the worst-case accident would not be enough to cause a blast, while making no mention of storing potentially explosive ammonium nitrate at the site.
The company first reported havindg up to 270 tons ammonium nitrate at the plant only 2 months age to a state office. it also reported  storing up to 100,000 lbs of anhydrous ammonia. this state office also did not disclose this info to homeland security as required
