POWER FAILURES; BLAMED ON CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS!!!!!!

The other night, we heard a LOUD BOOM; the lights flickered & we lost power; 1-1/2 hrs later the lights came back on. It seems a capacitor exploded from the extra power required to light all those bulbs in omes.on streets& businesses
light up homes, businesses & downtown streets.
Didyou ever consider that when your home& city are all lit up like a wonderland, that a power outage might occur.Fortunately we always keep candes & matches handy& ubby was able to provide enough light for usto find our way to the bathroom& find a snack in the kitchen.
Making hot tea w/o elecricity to ignite the electri c sparked gas urner required more matches to be lit.My youth'ss GIRL SCOUT TRAINING & participation in OUR SON'S BOY SCOUT TRAINING taught me to " BE PREPARED"

I would think that the draw of decorations is far less than the AC units on a hot summer day.
Many people have switched to LED lights and they draw far less than the regular bulbs and they draw a lot less than the large old bulbs that we had on our tree when I was growing up.

We don't have the problem this time a year but we sure do in the summer.One Summer we went three days without power.During the hurricane we were without power for a few days.The winters are for the most part OK.

I had trouble with my cable and it was worn out equipment, missing seals and other problems that had been over looked by the company for years.

except here in texas       i've ran my a/c almost every day this month     crazy weather even for us    yesterday it was 39 at 6am    and over 70 before noon and all the way up to 83
this morn it's 69   and will be in hi 70's tomorrow morn it will be freezing again and only get to 50's and thru next week it will be yoyoing like this as it has all month

i do have all led lights tho except for my tree and a couple of deer in the yard

we live in the country and there aren't many x mas lights even in the town 10 milie away . people here don't put up many lights . its a farm country .even with bad storms we don't lose lights i thank god and the 2 electric coms.

I've made ourown emegency lighting fixture, while waiting for new flashlights to arrive in stock:I put votive candles( long lasting) & not much drip , into metal cupcake pans to keep drips controlled & prevent dangerous tipping over.....we usually lose power n summer or during any storms; last rate hike was to pay for newer (undeground) quipment the power company always has an excuse

hubby bought a twin pack of high beam led flashlights to make these frequent power failures easier on usone @ bedside& one in livingroom, the two places we most often are when the lights go out.
Candles & mathches neaby to light up w/o losing our batteriesmore matches nextto the electic ignition stove ( doesn'tlight w/o electricity)

Not a whole lot of decorations on our block but some of the houses around the neighborhood are lit up so bright it looks like daytime.

Hopefully when that storm comes through here tomorrow, with the very high winds, it won't cause power outages. Our lines are all buried but we're connected to a sub-station that is pretty far away and they all have over-head lines so if they go down we might go down. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen but my candles are all out just in case.

Wide power failures sure aren't caused by Christmas decorations. lol lol. The power in my own area, like H.M.'s is all underground but it's brought in by over-heads. We're getting lots of warnings about power outages today caused by the bad winds coming..

We've never had a problem with the power going out because of Christmas decorations. We usually get hit in the summer or during a storm.

WE have the problem with lights going out mostly from ice on the lines here in Nebraska.
Our town has its own power plant so we are not out very long even if the big companys
are out for a long time.
