I have one cat.  His name is Toby.  He is white and orange and kind of reminds me of one of those toasted coconut marshmallows.  We adopted him from an animal shelter when he was about 2-3 years old.  We adopted him instead of a kitten because we thought the kittens would have a better chance of getting adopted by someone else than he would.

We have always had dogs but where I live now am not allowed pets of any kind. I spoil my brothers dog though. And she is always looking for me when I come up the hill. Love hearing about everyones pets.

And this is a cat with no front claws .... he used his TEETH.

Wow, Julie! Sounds like your sister has her own little personal zoo! That's neat that she loves for and cares for all those animals! God bless her! We have lost many cats and dogs over the years. It's sad because they are just like members of the family.

Last year at this time I had Kelly,a seventeen y.o.border collie and Ditto the Lord and Master of the house.Kelly had to be put to sleep and Ditto got sick and died, he was fifteen . I still have Rocky the other man in my life that's what my husband calls him.He is a fifteen y.o.Jack russell mix,he has Lymphoma and won't be with us much longer, that's going to break my heart,I try not to think about it too much.Last winter we adopted Romeo,a Basenji Dashound mix, he is now he is nine months old.We named him Romeo because he was born on Valentines day.I love that little guy so much,he always is getting into something, loves to shread paper.LOL.Over the years I have had other dogs and cats some found and some adopted from our local APL.Each and everyone of them had their own unique personallities and not one could ever replaced the other.I love each and everyone of them as if they were my children. My husband never had pets when he was at home, boy did he make up for that after marrying me LOL We have had birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles, frogs, lizzards and a small fish pond.If I had to do it over again I wouldn't change a thing.I also have two great sons :)

Enjoyed reading everyone's pet stories here! We do love our pets, don't we? Our Tinker, whom I really miss, was very smart. I had taught him to sit....just like one teaches a dog to sit. I would hold up a treat and tell him to sit and he would. He knew he always got one treat before bedtime so he would run and jump up on the bottom of my bed where he slept, turn and sit looking straight at the little bag of treats and patiently wait!! He loved being petted and having his stomach rubbed. If I started to turn out the light without doing so at night, he would lift his head and look at me as if to say, "aren't you forgetting something?!" He was the smartest cat we had ever had! The vet had to put him to sleep in February because there was nothing they could do to save him. He was my baby for sure and I miss him terribly!!!

Carol - what a sweet story.  I'm so sorry you lost Tinker.
I lost my dear cats about 3 years and I wasn't planning on more.  That trip to the humane society changed my mind and I got Peaches and Badcat.     Well, Peaches and Baccat got me.
Have you given any thought to another cat getting you?

Our little cocker mix found us. She was either a runaway or was dumped.  We had lost our miniature schnauzer a year and a half before in surgery for a malignant chest tumor.  Our neighbors say our schnauzer Sooie sent Peaches to us   We are grateful.

I compliment your site creation. I own zero pets but understand as I have had pets. Maybe someone will share Pet Food Recipes as I would pass them along to my friends.

My baby girl Zena turned 3 last Tuesday.  Sinfully, she's spoiled rotten-completely spoiled!!!  We're told she's a RottiShep (Rottweiler/Shepherd), got her from SPCA, runt of litter.  If we didn't see her 5 brothers, wouldn't believe she's Rottweiler.  We see no Shepherd in her.  Thinking of doing the saliva swab test to find truth.  She's great except for the latest barking crazy but vet said they grow out of that.  My stepson has 2 dogs (Kiwi/Howie) that were rescued from Ohio.  Kiwi is 4 this April, Howie 3 this month.  Howie is a beagle something mix & so very docile.  He'd be great for the elderly.  I think he's part lion because he sleeps about 20 hours a day.  Other 4 hours he eats/plays/wants a cookie (he learned that word very fast) & wants to be petted & petted & petted & petted & petted-once you pet Howie, he doesn't move for at least one hour (unless you say cookie than he's off)-he loves to be petted.  Kiwi is petite, a Beagle Terrier who was severely mistreated by her male owner than left on her own in the wild for about 1 year.  She's come very far in a year but trusting few men which I think will be a forever workathon.  Kiwi loves a bed or couch.  For a little one, she sure knows how to spread out.  Of the 3, she's the dominant one which is funny because she's smaller than the other 3.  My 60 lb Zena is funny to watch when Kiwi barks commands.  Than there's the rough-housing in the yard - the girls gang up on Howie but when he sits down, they know he's telling them he's had enough & gives in to them.

Carol...

I am sorry to hear about Tinker!  I lost 2 dogs and it just breaks your heart and the house just doesn't seem the same after they pass on.  They are family and to some they are there children.

I am sure God will send a special Kitty meant just for you!

We are the proud parents of 5 "babies"  We have 4 cats, 3 of which are rescues and one very spoiled 7 month old Doberman puppy.  We wouldn't trade them for all the money on earth.  They are pure joy.

Hi Mary Lou .... thanks for the wonderful photos.    My favorite is  #3 - where the doberman and the cat are happily together.
Your house must be a fun place to live.

I drove my husband to work this morning and he gave me his bank card which he placed in the console next to me so I could get some salt for the porch because it was a little icy here this morning. My sweet little Basenji dachshund mix puppy was in the back seat and was being unusually quiet.I got Mike to work and he got out and asked me if I put the bank card in my purse and I told him I hadn't.He says well where is it,I look at the puppy and I said "ROMEO" ,sure enough my little sweetie chewed up the bank card.Mike looks at him and says what are we going to do with you? If there is such a thing as reincarnation,Romeo was a pick pocket.I have watched this dog take things so quietly and softly you would have to see it to believe it.LOL He is a trip. But thank God we have a sense of humor, that little dog has brought more joy and happiness into our lives in the seven months we have had him.He gets into a lot of things he shouldn't,we have to always be two steps ahead of this one.Don't worry Romeo,Mommy and Daddy still love you.Smile

Gale, I can understand your dilemna! Foster hound Susie has chewed up a fair share of stuff she has "stolen" - although she will only chew on things that have fallen on the floor.  (She is especially fond of pens.)  Apparently anything ON the table belongs to us; anything on the floor is hers to do with as she pleases!
