i went to walmart last week to get a new collar and leash for my dog-------------jenny----------she's a 14lb mini dach---------when i got there -------------the racks where the ones i liked were empty except for the price hangers--------could not find anyone to help me--------called next day and after holding for over 30 mins could not get that dept or a mgr to answer-----so after i went th my dental appt i went back and found the same empty rack-------------an empl working in the area ckecked his computer with no results--------the dept mgr finally came over------checked and said they were changing suppliers and i could order on-line

so i went home and tried that route-------but for some reason it showed a zip code that was far from my home-----and kept telling me that they were available at my store--and wouldn't process my order--i tried to change store and by then they had sold all of the small ones

as far as i can tell the new ones they have are bigger----------i like the 3/8 in. ones because of the problems with my hands

any ideas

Nellie try Pet Smart or one of the big pet supply only companies they will have what you are looking for.I started buying my dog food there. I get twice as much for a few dollars more.

Finding doggy things are difficult I am sure. I have a cat and it is much easier in every way. We live in an apartment so it is a good pet for this area.

i go to petco--------------because it's 6 miles closer-------------and you get a free bag when you buy 12-------------i buy the smallest bags because i have a small dog--------she normally doesn't eat 4 lbs in a month----------and i don't like to store it--------and i wouldn't get any free

i haven't looked at the collars and leashes this week---but the last time they didn't carry the smaller things i like or they all have jewels or other things that catch in her hair--------------she's a long-haired mini-dach, piebald

i went back to walmart yesterday and they had a few collars--------but only 2 small in the 3/8 in ones---------had to buy a 1 in leash-------------petco also did not have any 3/4 -----------she's going to the groomer monday-------she's molting again-------------and i'm hoping she will have a catalog

I just went to www.petco.com and on line they have almost 300 dog collars.
I didn't know a plain, little collar could cost that much!!!

I paid $10 for a little pink rhinestone collar for Juliet it's maybe 1/4 inch wide.You could never walk her with it she would break it in no time.It's just bling.She is my first little girl dog,I have no daughters and no granddaughters yet so she is my little girl.I know it's silly but she is so cute.When she goes out for her walks she has a very plain harness on.

Nellie have you ever though about a harness for your dog? My Vet suggested it for my dog Romeo,he is a Basenji/Doxie mix he weighs 35 # but he is longer than a Basenji and the Vet though it would be better on his back to wear a harness than a collar putting undue stress on his back while walking on a leash.He also has a collar with his tags on it.Both of my dogs are also Micro chipped.You would think being micro chipped that I wouldn't have to buy them their tags every year.But I know the tags go to support our animal shelters so I really shouldn't complain.

I used to shop at Petsmart when I had more cats and dogs. But I only have one at home now (not counting the strays mooching at my Dads) so I usually buy cat food at the grocery store when it is on sale.

i had already gone there ---and they have pages and pages-------the prob is that you have to look at each item on quick view to find the size---------kind of like trying to find a recipe on this site now---after an hour i gave it up

i have not been able to find one that works on her--------------she is long---------and she has a very large chest and slims down a lot-----------so if it fits the chest-------------it doesn't fit the rest of her------same with sweaters------------i have to look for ones without leg loops-----------because of her length--------------i have a fenced yard in back so i don't use a leash unless i'm taking her away from home-------since my dog is neutered----tag is not required------except the vaccination one

Look where they sell the cat collars and harneses. If you find a large cat collar that may work.

actually my jenny is larger than i was told-she would be--------one of several untruths her breeder told-----------she is 14 lbs-just a tad over what i wanted---------because of lifting -------12 in neck--and i really haven't measured her chest --height or weight-my cleaning lady is coing by later---maybe we will try to do that------she loves jenny and vice-versa

of course i wouldn't trade her for anything

good news----------i took jenny to the groomer's today and asked about collars, leashes and harnesses --------------she has a catalog that i can order the 3/8's from-------------------and hanging in her shop she had a red harness/leash combo that she thought would fit-----------when i went to pick her up she had that red harness on--------and boy was she proud of herself-----prissy and it really set off her piebald coat------------------

----$12. for the combo-------and it is valentines so she really needed it-----------------in back she has it in pink--green (2 shades)-----blue-----aqua-----purple-------yellow---black-white and more than i can recall---------------so i guess i'll probably be stopping in again--------it's just 4 blocks away
