Today brings back many memories of Independence Day celebrations in Neosho MO.  We would all gather at the great grandmother's home or a great aunt's home and have hand churned ice cream.

Today brings back many memories of Independence Day celebrations in Neosho MO.  We would all gather at the great grandmother's home or a great aunt's home and have hand churned ice cream.  There was always vanilla, strawberry and chocolate ice cream being churned.  I am sure there were many toppings but I always had fresh picked stawberries for my choice.  I miss those wonderful people.  My memories of these days are just as sweet as the ice cream was.

Lisa, thanks for the reminder about making hand-churned ice cream. We did the same thing while I was growing up in Iowa...irreplaceable memories!

When I was very young, we lived in the city and every Sunday and holiday, Mom and Dad packed up the car and headed for the lake.  We would meet relatives and friends there since they all wanted to get out of the city.  I heard that the lake access has been closed off now, so sad.  We had so many great days there.  Of course a lot of the people we used to see out there are no longer with us either, even sadder.

I remember cooking out and watching my dad set off fireworks on the 4th of July when I was a kid.  It was a lot of fun.
