GRANA here;
For months I've had no ability to edit my many typos you may have noticed)?
After one year the  special intro rate (ISP)expired &went up 150%
Hubby switched us to a new permanently lower priced ISPand the problems began: I could not get onto the net, w/ my PC.Hubby set up his PC on mydesk (different operating software);A tech ONLINE insisted that it was my modem.Hubby took my PC into the shop @ staples today;The tech installed some software updates & we took myPC home.Still could not get online w/ my PC.;  hubby's worked  fine. Hubby called ISP again & WAS AGAIN told tech that my "modem is fine!"
  hUBBY stated  that it  had been  checked out  today; no response from tech.I called again & a different tech led me through all the same steps I did yesterday.
I was to hang up my landline/phone & ry agin.I told the new tech that yesterday I did all this several times & still could not get online w/ netscape.He/we did a few more things; I hung up & tried to connect again;....IT WORKED!(FAST& WELL).Surprised
I can now edit my many typos using "insert"
  connecting is faster
 emoticons work 300% faster.

I'd like to believe that all is now OK  w/ the internet connection; but I cannot be sure til  I've shut down & try to connect again???????????
If  Idisappear for awhile I will try to get another tech's help or geta new ISP. I'll be back ASAP to keep in touch daily as I have been for several years!
Please  share your own ISP experience(s) I'm sure we all have horor stories about  them

Glad to hear that it worked for you Ann.  Sometimes those techs have no clue about anything lol.  Makes me wonder exactly what they trained them on.

We've had the same cable company for years now.  But this is the third computer I've used over those same years.  This one is much faster, only because I don't have a lot of stuff on it.   Even cable isn't always reliable, although better than dial-up.

I just complain to hubby & let him fix things since we live in a ranch house, I can't do much damage tossing the PC out the window.

LOL, this gave me a chuckle!  I do the same thing the only difference is that I live in a 2 story....I think the PC smashes up better from the second floor!   Wink

We had been having problems with our internet going out several times a day, sometimes for just a few minutes and sometimes longer. Things took a long time to load. We have DSL which is supposed to be fast.  Finally a couple days ago we noticed there were no outages and stuff is loading more quickly.  They must have done something to their system.  Actually for $50/month for phone and internet isn't too bad.

Sometimes I think that there is too much technology and that can be confusing!
