Thanks for all your good wishes.  My surgery was on Wednesday and I was home on Friday.  Today is the first time I ventured downstairs where the computer is.  The last few steps were a little difficult.  I guess all is going well and it doesn't hurt much.  Couldn't take the pain meds prescribed as they messed up my system.  I felt sick and sleepy.  If one can't eat, one can't heal.  I changed to Tylenol which probably isn't as good at relieving pain, but at least I'm not sick.  Better go put my fat leg up.

Hip-Hip Hooray!!
Hip-Hip Hooray!!

I am so glad that you are up and around.
Take it easy on the stairs.
You should ask the doctor if there are any other pain killers you could try.  As much as you say if you can't eat you can't heal...I had a doctor tell me that your body heals much faster if you are not in pain.
Best wishes and glad you are back.
Now take 2 cookies, a glass of cocoa or tea and go to bed.

So glad you are doing well!! Keep up the good attitude and work hard on your physical therapy!!  A friend of mine who had her hip replaced found that water exercises ( in a swimming pool) were very helpful.  Good Luck to you!!

Judy O,
You go girl.  Don't have to rely on the meds if you don't have to like I do.  Best of healing and "DO WHAT THE DOC TELLS YOU" without abusing your privledge of getting help, if you can/do.

Keep on plugging along.  Don't overdo but some activity is important.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Great attitude.  About the prescribed meds - let the doc know, and he can change meds or dosage.

Just wondering about something hip related...I figure with all the people reading this I might get an answer.
I have been having problems with my hip for a while, I have an appointment Friday to see the doctor and get a referral for evaluation.  So I am possibly jumping the gun here but I need info.
Has anyone had hip replacement surgery using an anterior replacement incision rather than the posterior? As I understand it the recovery is faster with an anterior replacement.
Any info would be helpful. Thanks!!!!

Nikki, mine was posterior.  I think the anterior is less invasive but with a smaller hole to work in, we wonder if the surgeon can see as much as he needs to.  My friend who had both hips done was discussing this with our surgeon.  I have a lot of swelling.  This  hip isn't mine.  I'm sure after a bit of time it will be fine.
The home PT came today and said I'm doing great.  She showed me how to use crutches on the stairs which helps alot.  I'm not going to do the stairs more than once a day as it is tiring.  I didn't nap today.  I also discovered if I take one pain pill and not 2 I don't feel sick.  I took one before the PT came because I figured she'd work me hard.
Can't wait to be normal again.

Nikki -- Prayers for your dr. visit Friday.
Judy -- What you write is so instructional  (is that a word?).  I hope and pray any pain is soon gone

My sister recovered from both of hers rather quickly.  the second was much worse than the first, more bone spurs and she should have had both done about 10 years before she did.
I am guessing you will recover rather fast.
I understand the recovery from the anterior replacement is faster yet and I have a problem with my husband, I could not leave him for any length of time and the house we are currently in I could not return to right after surgery.  And he could not help me should something happen.
I hope all goes well at the doctors on Friday possibly some PT will hold off surgery.  Or better pain-killers.  Although they do not correct the problem they may make it easier to hold off any surgery.

Must be all your good wishes and thoughts that are helping me so much.  PT lady came today and said I was doing great.  I won't really feel like it is great until I shed the walker.  It has been said the better shape  you are in before your surgery the quicker the recovery.  Too many people wait too long.  It really doesn't get better.  Mine started hurting last spring so it was about a year.  Summer wasn't bad as I was able to ride and compete (with drugs) and work in the garden.  It did get noticebly worse starting in January.  I still did Pilates to keep in shape up until the last 2 weeks before te surgery.  My husband is a HUGE help. I wouldn't have been able to step over the tub to get into the shower tonight if he had not been there to help.
