"New" Grocery Stores

Just wondering if I am in the minority.
When I travel I like wandering through "new" to me grocery stores.  I like to check prices yes but I also like to find out if they have anything that is not available in my local store.
I have on occasion come home with grocery items.

I think when you like to bake and cook it's kind of second nature to seek out new and interesting foods.I'm always on the look out for new territory to explore.I love ethnic stores.

Great idea Nikki!!!  Not only do I check the grocery stores....I check any kind of store that doesn't happen to be available in my home town.  I am always amazed at what other stores carry.  I guess the marketers use certain cities to "debut" their products.  Our burg, Oregon, OH, was the place that Taco Bell chose to debut their latest item a few months ago, and it has already gone national.  Who knew!?

not new to you--------but they opened the first trader joe's in this area a couple wks ago with 2 more coming very soon------------none very near me---------but next time i go near the woodlands----35 miles----i plan to check it out

There's one grocery store here in town that is a fun trip.  They have stuff others don't.  I always walking down the baking aisles to see what they have that's different.  They will sometimes have unadvertised sales on Nestle chips.  Hopefully when that happens I have my 50¢ coupons with me.
I usually go to that one of Friday on my way home.  There's always a guy there cooking and giving large samples of entire meal type stuff along with the recipes.  Sometimes he even serves wine with it.  Now that's a grocery store experience.

The Natural Grocery is another store that is fun to browse.  They have some real bargains on organic stuff.

Yup I do that too & often bring home  non-perishables( spices, pasta; onece even a low carb yogurt made by a company near our home.It didn't make the trip home but was eenjoyed half way Lfway home n the 12 hr train rideTongue outWink

I thought I would not be the only one.  At least on this site.
I also like to look for produce that I normally do not see.
I did not even think to mention "ethnic" markets because I frequent them often.  One of my favorite things to do when I get to Chinatown in Chicago is to wander through the stores, I  mean the hardware store, grocery store and other shops.  Not sure I would get used to the frogs looking back at me but it does make for a fun trip. It was on one of those trips that I tried a durian smoothie. It tastes as bad as it smells. But I had to try it just to say I tried durian.

My husband thinks I'm nuts when we're on vacation and I say I want to go to the grocery store, drug store, etc. 

You never know what you might find in a store in another area. In Kentucky, I got a whole, smoked ham at a very reasonable price.  Brought it all the way home and had great ham for a long time.   I even went to the grocery store in San Diego when I was there with my daughter.  We were there for two days to go to a concert(she won the trip from a radio station) and it was great to have fresh fruit to snack on while at the hotel.

I spent last week in Seattle vacationing with my 2 sisters, and visiting the local stores and shops was on the top of our to-do list. We found some interesting sauces, and a fabric store that is to die for with all of its unusual items.

I visited my daughter in Athens, Al and they have an Aldi's Supermarket in Madison and Decatur, Al.  Very nice store with low prices.  You have to bring your own bags.

We live in Pine Bluff, AR but spend weekends in Hot Springs, AR.  I often bring home  groceries from Hot Springs back to Pine Bluff.  I also like to venture into other grocery stores when we travel elsewhere.

They just opened a new store here."Value King" They sent a flyer out,prices look good.This week they are giving a can of tomato soup and an 8 oz pkg of American Cheese with a ten dollar purchase.I think we'll check this out next week.They have sliced turkey breast for $1.99 #,Hard salami $3.99 # Boneless pork loin for $1.77 # just to name a few.

Here are a few things that I found on trips that I had never seen at "home"
1. Peanut butter in sticks like butter easy to measure for cookies.  Found them at my local store around Christmas a year or two later.
2. Almond Roca Cookie mix.  Use to make a bar cookie with a shortbread base with the crushed Almond Roca and chocolate on top.  Found it several years later at Costco in large boxes and I have seen it in other stores in smaller boxes.
3. Cake mixes.  All since have become available in my local stores.
