MILK PRICES MAY SKYROCKET

If congress doesn't pass a new farm bill one from 1949 will go into effect and the price of milk may raise to $6-$8 a gallon.You know anything made with milk will also rise.I can't imagine

MILK PRICES MAY SKYROCKET

If congress doesn't pass a new farm bill one from 1949 will go into effect and the price of milk may raise to $6-$8 a gallon.You know anything made with milk will also rise.I can't imagine what our Grandmothers would say about that?

I got a gallon of milk the other day and went into sticker shock.  It was up quite a bit from the last time I got milk.  Now it was at a different place from where I usually get milk, no choice as I was being driven but WOW.
Can't imagine paying $6.00 or more.  Well I would not buy milk.  Lots of other choices, Soy milk, Almond milk, Rice milk.  I doubt that my husband would notice and my grandson is used to it as they have alternate milk products at home due to allergies.

WOW!  I hadn't heard about that, but I hope it doesn't get that high.  My kids drink a lot of milk.

What do you pay for a gallon of milk in your state? We in California have had higher priced milk for many, many years because of the nutrition requirements. They don't allow milk to come from any other state...think monopoly. Right now the price of a gallon is DOWN to about $3.70. It's been higher in recent years.

 Well Renee, if you find that cheap cow let me know!  Smile  And Verlee that's about what I pay here too. I think it might also be different in what part of the state you live in. I'm in the upper half. I enjoy all the milk alternatives like soy & almond. There's a different one I found the other day made from flax & it's yummy. Plus you can buy those type of milks in vanilla (which i love) and in chocolate. Better yet they can store on the shelf until ready to use which means you can stock up when they're on sale.

I noticed a price of 5.45 on a gallon of milk and it did not shock me. I posted an article this Summer that the price of milk would rise because of the " Drought across America."

This increase has to do with congress passing a bill.What we can do is start calling our congress person and voicing our opinions.It is our right to do so.

I typically get milk for under $2.00 a gallon.
I guess I feel lucky looking at what some of you are paying.

 20   years goseveral dairy farmswere  lesthan 5 milesdown the road; replaced by condos& mini mallsFrown
Aa gallon ofmilkistoo heavy for meto lift ...we buy1/2gallon s for $1.69 store's own; non-fat
  FULL  gallons are$3.29
  We don't eat much meatr& get our  protein primarily  from ( yogurt &  cheese)  also beans&  whole grains...
Highr  dairy yprices wil hurt  our food budget & require me to  cook more legumes &  grains

Here, it is, and has been for ages, $2.59 a gallon.  Since it is just the two of us, I like to get the 1/2 gallon....BUT....the 1/2 gallon is $1.99.  Doesn't seem fair; but then, what is?!

I just wonder how much of the increase will go to the farmers.  They work hard and the price of "cow food" keeps going up.  Because of the drought there isn't much pasture in a lot of places and the price of hay has sky rocketed.  Now if the increase mostly goes to the middle men that's not right.

We buy the 20 qt box of powdered milk.  That way I never run out when I'm baking.   I think the box is about $16.  I use soy milk on my cereal.  I started that because it was supposed to help with hot flashes.  Maybe it does.  It is not cheap though.  A half gallon is about $2.75.  Sometimes I can get it on sale and sometimes Silk has a coupon.

Most of our stores will put milk on sale regularly and then it's under $2 a gallon.  But the regular price is about $3.59 from what I've seen.  I've taken to buying 1% milk since it seems to last longer before going bad.  Almond milk is good but that costs over $3 per half gallon.   We don't use much milk and I feel bad for those who have to pay such high prices.
