Oh those sneaky mayo makers...Has anyone besides me noticed that the "quart" of mayo is now 30 OUNCES!?! I was creating a grocery list from my local grocery store's website and noticed that it said 30 oz jar of mayo...then I checked another brand...again 30 oz, then another..30 oz...I haven't a clue as to how long this has been going on. I do know one thing...you see jars that say "4 free ounces" but you don't see any that say "2 ounces less for more"

I noticed a lot of food manufactures are changing the package size. You pay the same or more and you are getting less...What is wrong with that picture!

Pretty sneaky if ya ask me. I noticed that some of the sugar packaging is down to 4 lbs. But can still find 5 lbs around too.

Yea the prices go up and the ounces go down and we are stuck in the middle. Pay is less bills are more!

Just about everything has gone down in size. Potatoes are only eight pounds now, used to be ten. Just about every brand of sugar is now down to four pounds. I'm waiting for when they bring down the size of the flour bags too. So much for the politicians contending that the cost of living isn't really going up!

It is to trick us into thinking we are not paying more money. They simply leave the price the same and give us less of the products. As soon as one manufacturer does it, the rest follow suit. Just like ice cream. The boxes get smaller all the time.

Best Foods/Hellmans automated info page said that they changed the lid in order to reduce the amount of solid waste. Didn't mention the fact that it reduced the size. Went to Krafts website and ended up spending $25 by ordering a new vegetable peeler and 2 dvd sets of "Guys Big Bite" tv series. (1 for me and 1 for a friend). Hey...they were on sale! LOL

Don't know what type of flour you buy but, I have been getting 4 lb bags for a very long time. Look at a loaf of bread. There are about 6 slices less and for those who make lots of sandwiches for kids and family lunches, that counts!

Horrors of all horrors...when was the last time anyone saw a half gallon of ice cream....

Problem is recipes may state 1 Can of.....well if the can used to be 15 ounces and it is now 14 ounces that might be a problem. When you make a recipe note the size of the can called for in the ingredients and make sure the can you are putting in is of the same size. You may have to adjust other ingredients to achieve the desired consistency.

I never noticed it either. Just went and checked all the Kraft in the cupboard and sure 'nuf 30 oz. Guess I will shoot off an
e-mail and find out how long this has been going on. Definetly answers a question about a recipe I(?) ruined without enough mayo.

I've noticed it on a lot of products. You get less and pay the same amount. The coffee we buy is the same way, you get less. Same for non food products like tissues and toilet paper. We don't have much choice!!!Since the majority of them are all doing the same thing.

Sometimes you will see promo jars that say "4 ounces free". But you never see "We're keeping 2 ounces". Reminds me of a story that an old insurance agent told me years ago. He had worked for State Farm for years and one day the auto policy renewals started coming in with a $1 charge per car for towing and labor. This was back when T&L was first introduced. They had just added the endorsement to every vehicle that they insured. When John asked them how they could do this he was told...If we add the $1 charge to 1 million cars and only 25,000 customers have us take it off, we have made $975,000. They didn't even attach at notice telling the customers about the new coverage so it took a long time before people started using it.

I just bought 2 jars of mayo 36 oz for the price of 30 oz. They say 20% free but I'm only getting 4oz.free.They take advantage of us so when they have these bonus packages I take advantage of them.They really are not given us anything just what they should have given us in the first place.It's all about marketing and sales.

I have a couple old recipes that call for x teaspoons of a certain flavoring cake with x teaspoons for the icing which amounted to one bottle. The new small bottles of flavoring (like lemon) complicate that .... the difference is too much to ignore.

Good thing is a pound is a pound..will have to watch that the weight of butter does not change. Would hate it if the weight of 4 sticks of butter goes to 12 ounces!

This has been going on for decades. Remember when a chocolate bar cost 5 cents? Then it went up to 10 cents and they made the bar bigger? Only thing, while the price doubled, the size of the candy bar didn't. My sister and I just noticed a name brand ice cream. It used to be 2 quarts, then it went down to 1.75 quarts. Now it's down to 1.5 quarts. Same price, of course.
