Vicki, love your tender heart toward animals. Have a friend that helps strays and find them homes.
I mentioned many years ago and maybe within the past 18 months that we have a dog that has come to think that she is our dog. She was roaming the development when we first moved in and she was a poor site, every rib showing. She wouldn't let anyone near her so we bought dog food and a bowl and put that bowl just beyond our yard where she would run on the edge of the woods. As she began to rely on that food, we moved the bowl closer to the house. She is the gentlest sweet dog, Australian sheep dog and hound mix. We can feed her treats at our slider and she'll come and taken them, but don't try to touch her, she's her own dog!!
She had a litter. We trapped her and had her spayed. Otherwise, she has no human touch. She loves to play with my husband.
He pretends he is going to catch her and she runs in circles, wagging her tail, then just plots down out of reach.
They sure can make a big place in your heart, even when you can't touch them!
