Our favorite spring bird is the ruby throated humming bird.  We also like the woodpeckers.  Your pictures were wonderful.

Thanks for posting these pictures they are beautiful. My neighbor that lives two doors down from me is a true bird lover.she puts out certain things to attract certain birds into her yard. While visiting her one day I saw birds that I have never seen before. When the kids were younger we put in a fish pond with a fountain and I was able to coax some of them into my yard along with Dragonflies too!

We have lots of birds since we feed them all winter.  There's 5 kinds of woodpeckers if you don't count the northers flicker as a woodpecker.  I saw 2 flickers the other day.  One was on the suet (woodpeckers love it) and one was hunting for dropped sunflower seeds on the ground.  They are large beautiful  birds.  Here is a rufous sided towhee eating sunflower seeds on the back patio

Thank you for the nice comments! I actually love all animals and birds included. I always thought that I'd work in a shelter but my daughter talked me out of it. She thinks that I would crumble there as I love animals so much. She's probably right. I go for a walk every day almost to feed stray cats and turn them into what could be pets and then find homes for them. I usually give them their first shots and a bath if I can. Maybe I'm the one that needs a rabies shot!   :)

Vicki, love your tender heart toward animals.  Have a friend that helps strays and find them homes.

I mentioned many years ago and maybe within the past 18 months that we have a dog that has come to think that she is our dog.  She was roaming the development when we first moved in and she was a poor site, every rib showing.   She wouldn't let anyone near her so we bought dog food and a bowl and put that bowl just beyond our yard where she would run on the edge of the woods.  As she began to rely on that food, we moved the bowl closer to the house.  She is the gentlest sweet dog, Australian sheep dog and hound mix.  We can feed her treats at our slider and she'll come and taken them, but don't try to touch her, she's her own dog!!
She had a litter.  We trapped her and had her spayed.  Otherwise, she has no human touch.  She loves to play with my husband.
He pretends he is going to catch her and she runs in circles, wagging her tail, then just plots down out of reach.

They sure can make a big place in your heart, even when you can't touch them!

I enjoy watching the birds and I love all the pictures.  Just this week, I saw a Blue Jay, a Robin and a Cardinal.

And I really like the funny one about packing a bag for winter.  I am really ready to shove winter out the door with that bag!
Nothing worse than getting up on the first day of Spring and seeing two inches of snow on the ground!

We spend a small fortune on bird seed (sunflower and niger thistle) and suet.  At first we bought 20 bags (40# each) and 2 50# bags of thistle.  With all the snow they ate that all so we ended up buying several more bags.  We also bought several cases of suet.  We figure we don't drink, smoke or gamble so we spend that money on bird food.

Wow Judy! You do get many visitors! Looks like you are one of those that really enjoy them. Money better spent on on them instead of other things anyway! I can't feed the birds as I have too many cats around the neighborhood and they won't come.
