GRANA here;"NO WOMAN FORGOTTEN"
 I always get my yearly mammogram in the month of my birth[ mine is Nov 15th]( easier to remember
 In October, Breast Health AWARENESS  is observed. If I wait till then ; there are no NOVEMBER  appointments  available & I must wait til spring of the next year.I called in September  this year &  got  mine(appt.)Novvember 19th,The center  for my test has the new 3D system( less compression time &  mpre detailed imaging.They say  there is less discomfort  due to shorter compression time &   less chance of having to redo the test  due to the more  detailed accurate 3Dimaging
No matter  what you have heard about  discomfort; please get your mammogram each & every year.The small level of discomfort is so muchless than that of  breat cancer & if  they find ": something" soon; it can be dealt w/ before it  gets to be a serious&  painful problem.My  first  mammogram 20 yrs ago showed "something"; a biopsy was dione &  it was benign.... The bipsy was done outpatient & I was there less than one hour; no pain or discomfort. So much better than avoiding the test "because"......I  the biopsy  ( brief time; &    discomfort &  very soon was able to  stop fearing the WHAT IFS!!!!!!  My sister in law featred the test   results; avoided it till too late it was found that she had breast cancer; too late to avoid pain & she died .This is why I  encourage you all every year to get your mammogram &  biopsy if needed; take care of yourselves &  stay  well & w/us ; your friends& family  as long as G-D intended.
If you have no insurance;  check your local hospitals; many offer free (income based) mammograms For years I gotmine at the FREECLINIc&  volunteered to help pay them back .When our finances improved we donated  to the fund"NO WOMAN FORGOTTEN"

I do hope no one checks the No insurance, can't get one.
Many health Departments offer low cost or free mammogram.
Please check your local health department or American Cancer Society to find out if they are available.

GRANA here;
 My husband just id an internet " search" (Medicare screeningsfor2013 &  found that  mammograms are covered  for those over age 40years / older  & the provider  must accept medicare for the test itself . Screening mammograms are covered under PART  B     20If you   depend upon medicare to pay for your mammogram; call your breast care center &  ask them if medicare still covers the test???? &check w/ your own insurance company fr  coverage.If no insurance call  your HERALTH dept  &  mammogram teting facilities; ask "do they  accept that  coverage.If you are under 40yo
I've been hearing for years that colonoscopies will n longer be covered or that only the less intrusive type will be covered(  faster & therefore less
expensive anyway.Due to budget cuts, all screenings may be cut so ask the testing  facility if they accept  medicare for  mammograms In any case;  get your mammogram however you  can ; use the system &  get whatever financial HELPYOU QUALIFY FOR
 Screening mammograms are covered if the dr. accepts medicare
as payment  Diagnostic mammograms are covered when "medically necessary" BOTTOM LINE : Ask the location of the test if they accept medicare for mammograms / is the cost  of  your mamograram covered by  medicare/ your other insurance?

My doctor told me that since I am 75 plus 6 months, the AMA says after 75 women do not need to get yearly scans.  I'm still going to make an appointment....I'm not dead yet.  My Mother died from breast cancer, and I don't want that to happen to me.  Too much pain and suffering.  We'll see what happens when they ask me my age.

I would think given your family history that you would be put into a higher risk category so you may still be able to get the scan.

I just had mine a couple weeks ago.  All fine.  I think the reasoning that you don't need a mammogram after 75 is insane.  I'll be 75 next year and I'm sure they will send me my reminder that they always do.
