GRANA here ;
We all want to look younger than our years, and we all want to live long, healthy &   productive lives ; I just read an article that  brings new thoughts to this question: Please read it ; give it some thought&  let's get a discussion going ; should be interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"The First Person To Live To 150 Is Alive Today."

For centuries, scientists have been debating theories about just how long, with proper health care and judicious personal habits, the human lifespan can extend. In recent years, the 150 number has been up for discussion. Some have scoffed at that prospect, but insurance-company actuaries and retirement-planning accountants are not known for wacky practical jokes -- they are as somber-eyed as funeral directors as they calculate just how big a risk they run while writing policies for their customers of various ages -- so the sight of that Prudential billboard was a little jarring.

I contacted Prudential's corporate headquarters, and the company forwarded to me a table of federal statistics showing the lengthening average lifespans in the U.S. over the past 80 or so years. In 1930, the average life expectancy (measured at birth) of Americans was 59.7 years. By 1940, it had grown to 62.9. 1950: 68.2. 1960: 69.7. 1970: 70.8. 1980: 73.7 1990: 75.4. 2000: 77. 2010: 78.7.

As long as I am healthy and can fend for myself everything will be good.  Sorry but sitting around looking out the window is just not me.  Unfortunately there is no earthly timetable on our lives and GOD isn't sharing that information as far as I know.

The insurance companies and actuaries can make all the charts they want to come up with an average but it only applies to what they expect for people's lives.  The rest of us just have to take good care of ourselves and live each day to the fullest.

I don't believe it is the "QUANTITY" or number of years but the QUALITY of life that matters.  I'm sure with all the advancements in science they can keep people alive for many many years, but I don't want to be around if I can't function or be productive.

I have been thinking about this for a while.
I most certainly would not want to live the way my husband is now.
As long as I am reasonably healthy can take care of my self and not burden anyone that is how long I want to live.
I suppose one's idea of a burden is different.

I do know that I want no artificial means to keep me alive, I will carry with me a DNR.

I guess I am glad that I do not have a crystal ball that would tell me how and when I will go.  It is all in His hands.

I haven't really given this much thought, as I am enjoying life so much right now. However, my great aunt just passed away at 106, so I'll shoot for her record. LOL  She has been in a nursing home for 2 years, but only because her children were afraid she'd fall down the basement stairs and no one would be around to help her. She was still quite sharp mentally, and physically had no problems to speak of. My parents are 88 and 89, and all 4 of my grandparents lived to be in their 90s.

What H.M said.  I also would not want to spend all my time looking our the window.  If I can't be up doing stuff  that isn't living.  sitting around is not for me.  I have some long lived relatives.  Mom was 91 and her sister (my last living aunt) is doing well on her own and will be 92 soon.  On dad's side his oldest sister was 90 and my uncle was 90.

At 58 I have surpassed my parents, my Mom died in her 40's and my Dad died in his 50's.
My maternal Grandma on the other hand was in her 90's. All other grandparents had died before I was born so I guess longevity is not something that runs in my family.

I just saw this but you should keep a copy of the DNR with you at all times.
In an emergency there would be no time to contact your lawyer or get the copy you may have at home.
Even if you tell them in the hospital that you have a DNR unless they have a copy of it they must procede as if you did not have it.
I keep a copy of it in the car.

As long as I'm fairly healthy and can care for myself.I would never want to go to an extended care facility.Worked in one wouldn't want to live there.

As I recently celebrated my 75th birthday, I have thought about this.  I have outlived my mother, both my grandmothers, and my older sister.  I have one grandfather that lived into the high 80's, and my dad always said that he died of old age and ornerinessI would hate to be thought of in those terms.

I have found myself thinking about what of my precious possessions should be left to which person.  I have also made special things for each of my grand daughters.  I am certainly not on death's door, but I do think we can start to reflect on how we would like to be remembered.
