newly brought home to me yesterday, how easily this can happen
when my g.s. and I returned to my home in my car after taking our dogs to vet early, around 9:45
he is 16 and only had his own vehicle for about 3 months   he took his 10 lb black doxy out of carrier and placed him on the front seat of his dark blue p-up , shut the door to carry my doxy and carrier into my house for me           when he returned and got his carrier out and shut up my car         he realized he had locked his keys inside the vehicle     it was already about 85 outside            his dad had the x-tra key at work
he met my g.s. halfway  but it was still over 45 mins
I tried standing by him, but soon realized I needed to go inside so he would lie down and not be jumping around
I turned on all the fans   and wet two towels and put them in the freezer   and fixed a metal bowl with ice water         when we got him out he lay on the tile floor by the fan and drank the water   and we draped him with the cold towel      and changed it out when it
I had my g.s. start his p-up and turn on the a/c and run it for about 10 mins before I let him take him home

a really nerve racking experience for him and me

Good warning.  Accidents like this are one thing but it bothers me when I see a dog left in a car in a parking lot.
You did all the proper things to cool him down.  I hope that all is well.
As the owner of 2 mini doxies I know how they can jump around when excited.

A very scary happening.  I'm so glad it had a good ending.

also, he had just had all his shots and they affect all dogs for a couple of days
my son is having 2 extra keys made today  one to leave with me

and nikki, surprisingly      many people here in texas are calling for help for kids or animals they find in cars
and people are being charged in most instances       with the heat we have it can become serious in just a short time

I decided a long time ago that if I ever saw a child or an animal in a car I would call 911 first then break the window.  I would deal with the breaking and entering charges later but if by breaking a window I would save the life of a child or an animal it would be worth the cost.

Never ever leave babies, small children, or any pet in a locked car on a hot day.  The consequences could be disasterous.
