I have been reading "My Life in France" by Julia Child and Her nephew.  It is a good read, and it made me think back about watching her shows on PBS.  Often she would have a guest chef who would demonstrate his or her specialty.  I was always struck by how interested she was in each and every step of the recipes.  I often thought to myself...she is always learning.  That is what is so great about this web site...we are always learning from each other.

I used to watch Julia when I was a girl and also Graham Kerr.I've seen the movie Julie and Julia and enjoy that also.I have always been interested in cooking and baking, watching My mom cook,Julia and Graham were also inspiring. One thing I learned watching the gallopping gourmet was to pour a cup of black coffee on your pot roast before roasting to give the gravy a good color and also tenderize the roast.I have a lot of Julia's recipes.

I have Mastering The Art of French Cooking.  Isn't she co-author of that?  I haven't opened it in many years - lol. I did love watching her on TV.  You make the book sound good ... I'll get that.

I loved watching her, too, I just loved her voice. I loved to hear her talk. And sometimes she could be so funny! I, too remember Graham Kerr. I guess that tells our age, doesn't it?

Oh, Gale I have been a grandma for the last 8 years! But I'm still not old. I feel like I'm the same age as my 35 year old son- until I look in the mirror!

Watched the movie Julie and Julia and the only thing that ran through my mind while I was watching it was how come they gained no weight while she was cooking like that for a year?  I know crazy thought but if I just think about that I gain weight!
I have made a few things from the book but I have not looked at it in several years.  There are other cookbooks that I turn to.  But the lessons I learned while doing the recipes from Julia's book or any cookbook stay with you.

Barbara,

I couldn't agree more that we are always learning from each other.  I'm not too old to learn something new in the kitchen and I love this website and the men and women who are the community at VBB.

I wish the shows nowadays had even half the class of Julia. A great cook that will be forever missed on the telly.

I used to watch Julia Child and Graham Kerr too.  I also saw the movie.  Great cooks continue to learn no matter how good they are.
