Last night on my way home I ran into the grocery to get some things I'd be using today. ..... flour, sugar, brown sugar,butter, eggs, etc .... and some usual day-to-day things.
I stuffed some things into the freezer and some into the 'fridge. The rest I left on the counter to be put away this morning.
When I was putting things I found a pound of butter!! A pound of butter left on the counter overnight!!
I left it there around 8:45 PM and found it around 7 AM. Good grief.
I threw it away ~sigh~
Was that the correct thing to do?
What silly thing have you done recently?

Oh heck, I wouldn't have thrown it away!! I would have got out all my recipes that call for softened butter and made cookies!! I always leave sticks of butter on the counter over night so that they are nice and soft (like the recipe calls for) when I am ready to bake. No harm, no foul!!

My most recent silly thing was opening the microwave to put the mayo away....um, the fridge would have been a better option!!

Unless the cats got to it the butter would have been just fine.

I can do one better..
Years ago I did my shopping and unloaded my little truck when I got home. Put everything away..or so I thought.
2 days later I found the gallon of milk that I had forgotten. I had not wanted to put it in the bed of the truck with the other items so I put it behind the seat.
Would not have been so bad if it were winter but this was June.
Strange what milk does when it sits out like that. Pretty sure I had a great cheese going.

Nancy, I think the butter is still good to use. During the winter months I keep butter for my toast in the cupboard, and it's there for at least a week...and I'm still alive.

i would have used it . i did something like that went food shopping i had a truck and food was in back seat i took the bags all out put everything away two days later i found the not frozen pizza i had bought it was under the back seat all puffed up it was summer haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I guess it goes back to childhood on a farm -- we did not put butter in the fridge if it was to be used for buttering the biscuits etc.
Butter was only put in the fridge if it was to be stored for a while.
I leave a stick of butter out (covered) on my kitchen table all the time - I don't like hard butter for my toast, biscuit etc.
Now the jug of milk? that is something else altogether!

Things left in the car, or truck, will start to smell after a while. Even water! How well I know lol.

A couple of years ago we lost power for a few days. The night it went out I went to buy bags of ice and put them in the trunk of my car. When I got home we unloaded them but apparently one of them had lost some ice. About two months later there was this really awful smell in the car. I searched everywhere inside the car and the trunk and found nothing. Until I lifted the cover of the spare tire and really got a nosefull lol. It was awful! Who knew melted ice could stink so bad?

Today I bought 5 lb of butter -- 3 lb went immediately into the freezer, 1 lb into the fridge and 1 lb stayed on the counter for the next batches of cookies.
