Susan, I was watching the weather channel and it looks like you are
going to get a lot of rain. Hard to tell on the map but looks like Phil.
is going to get hit hard.  I'm glad you are inland and not near the
coast.  I will be praying for you and all who are in the path of Irene.
Stay safe and don't go outdoors.

The funny thing is we are in the path of Irene and we usually live in Florida but come to the Catskills in the summer. Soooo here we are sitting in rain and light wind that is expected to increase to 70mph up here in the mountains. I pray that those in NYC will be safe! We are looking at the morning news and see water rushing down the subway stairs, etc.

We took a direct hit from Irene on Saturday morning. We are all okay. She was long and difficult but those of us in south eastern NC know how to ride out a storm!!! The house is still intact and the power is back on for most of us!

Well, the storm came thru yesterday into last night at my house.  We lost power several times & it came back on in a half hour or so until 5PM.   That was it for us until lunchtime today.  Not so terribly bad.  But I am such a whiner when I don't have electric.  Everything uses it at my house.  From the lights ant the A/C to the well water.  So when it is off, I have nothing. (whine)  I miss living in the city.  Husband loves it out here with the bigger lots & huge trees.  Not me.  If it were up to me none of my trees would be taller than 10 foot.  And my yard would be the size of a postage stamp.  Some huge limbs came down off the tree in the front yard, but fortunately they did not hit the house or the cars.  We were very lucky.  Losing power for not even a whole day was wonderful in the big scheme of things.  I finally got to take a shower this afternoon, so I feel much better now.   Smile

Flooding is still a danger along the eastern states.  The pictures of the destruction that we see on the news is heartbreaking.
Here in central IL we wonder who has the raindance backward.  It has rained north of us and south of us with nary a drop here.
I certainly don't want the rains Irene dumped on folks but we would like just a bit.  I'm sure they would gladly send some our way if they could.
Texas is suffering with drought even worse than ours.
Nature is hard to understand sometimes.  Too much or too little.  Why?

We got hammered by Irene!  The full force of Irene hit around 4:30 a.m. this morning.  That is when we lost electric!  You could hear the winds (60+) and our house was plastered with shredded leaves.  The trees were bending, branches all over the yard and I prayed that a tree did not hit the house.  Around 5:00 p.m. the skies started to clear and the winds stopped.  Finally at 9:30 p.m., the electric came on!  We had no electric for 17 hours!  We ate cold food all day and of course we could not use the water or toilet!

Tomorrow will be a hot meal!

So glad to hear from you Susan and know you're OK -- and that you have electricity!!
On FOX tonight they said that some areas will not get electricity back for as long as three weeks.
Oh, it's so good to hear from you and know all is well!!

We survived with minimal problems. Our electricity went out for a few seconds. The farm below us had its fields flooded as did some of the lower lying towns in Delaware County, NY.

We did get a lot of water in the basement and we had to wait for the electricity to come on so we could plug the sump pump in!  We are still getting water out this mornig but it looks like it is starting to come to the end!  Thank God!

Thanks everybody for all your concerns and prayers!  Much appreciated!
