Hi Nellie --- I'm in the local library using one of their computers ---- mine is broken!  CryYell  It took me 5 minutes to even find this site.
Anyhow -- the "recipe" I use for nectar is 4 to 1.   That's four cups of water and one cup of sugar.   I jus tbring it to a boil and store it in the 'fridge.   No color - nothing except sugar and water.

I use the same "recipe" that Nancy does.  Except I dissolve the sugar in 1 or 2 cups of boiling water then add cold water and ice for the 2 or 3 cups that is necessary.  That way I can use it sooner if I need to.  If I do not need it right away I will boil the full 4 cups of water with the sugar. I just heat it enough for the sugar to dissolve.
No color in mine either.
We had a nasty storm this morning and I did not see any hummers and I thought maybe they had given up and gone on their way but they are still here, they showed up around noon.

This morning two men from Charter were here trying to repair my computer connection ......... They were so fascinated with the hummers that they could hardly work.  Neither of they had ever seen one so close and could not believe how they swarmed.

i'm glad I had my g.s. move the feeders yesterday     it started raining almost immediately after
and they are still all over them        and if they were still where they were  I couldn't see them through the rain out the window   but they are eating in the rain,  I wondered if they would
also that side of my yard is in a swale of the pecan orchard   and holds water first
on this predicted light day   w/ most falling tonight and tomorrow
I had 1 in yesterday        and already over 2 In. today

Yesterday afternoon almost all of my hummers disappeared!!   Very few were eating.
So far this morning I've seen ONE.   Frown
It's too early for them to be gone -- this must be just a lull.

We were on vacation on the island of Maui for 10 days. (just got back on Friday)  My husband had filled both of our feeders just before we left.  When we came home, both were empty.  Our first morning back, one bird was buzzing around the empty feeders, so my husband filled both very quickly.  Well, we have one bird back anyway.  Hard to know if there are others as this one chases every other bird away.

What hummingbird film???? care to share?

Sad........I have not seen a humming bird in several days.  I will be taking the feeders down and washing them and putting them away until March or April next year. ..................

I did see a hummingbird moth at my butterfly bush yesterday.  I will have to do a bit of research to find out what they need.

I thought they were gone....but this morning I saw a female at the feeder and she came to the one that I had hung form a cart that I have on the deck that I use to put my plants on to wheel them in and out in cooler weather.  So I will give it another few days before I clean out the feeders and put them away for the winter. I did see another hummingbird moth.

I'm still seeing 3 or 4 a day.  I expect to keep seeing them for the first week in October.
