The size of my hordes diminished a bit but it's still many, many birds.

We still have lots.  Night before last somebody knocked down the glass one and cracked the plastic base.  I'm blaming the raccoons.

Judy - I have been having a difficult time finding feeders at this time of year -- but ebay has MANY at great prices.
This year I was feeding such a smaller number of hummers that I gave away most of my feeders.  Now, with the migrating flocks, I have needed more.

The hummingbirds have been very active both at our condo in Hot Springs, AR and  at our home in Pine Bluff, AR.

I just picked up 2 pretty large glass feeders at Menard's, a large hardware store.  They were reduced in price.  Farm and Fleet had them as well and also reduced but not as low as Menard's.

I have several hummers around my feeders but there is one female that is dive bombing the others that try to eat.  I think I may have to hang one feeder in the front of the house but then I will not see the birds as well.
But it's all about them isn't it?

I just wonder, how long they will stick around?

Nikki -- In my area they will all be gone by the second week in October.
I keep records on my calendars of the date of the first one I see and ~sigh~ the last one.
You are north of me so I bet that in the spring you see them later than I do -- and lose them later in the autumn.

When I'm waiting for them in the spring I keep close watch on - http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html

just had to refill both feeders

nikki,
try putting your feeders a little further apart
my niece and I have 7 feeders out between us
a couple of them sit and guard           but when the others come down they don't go to those feeders
and they've quit running away from the guards

I moved one of the three feeders to the front yard.  I hesitate to move the two that are in the back because that is where the hummers are hanging out.  But I guess I could move one to the side yard.  And I am sure since it is in sight they would find it.

Nancy, than you for the hummingbird map I will copy down the info and write it on my calendar so I can transfer it to my new one when I get it.  I will make note of in March or April and keep checking.

I bought the last 2 bottles of nectar at walmart this morn       no more til spring    maybe i'll check another walmart tomorrow       or i'll have to start making my own    those bottles contain 64 ozs or a half gallon each I have bought 8 bottles since the first of sept  and when I refill tomorrow I will have 3 bottles left

nikki,
I was meaning   farther apart  not actually out of sight       ours are all in sight of each other   in a 20ft radius

nancy

I still have 2 feeders in the back the one in the front as well as the flowers they like in the back.  So moving one of the feeders to the side of the yard, about 50 feet should give the other hummingbirds a fighting chance to grab a sip before Miss Bossy Pants dive bombs them away from "her" feeder.

It will not be long at all before they are all gone ......... gee, we're gonna' miss 'em.
But I won't miss boiling all that nectar.

Nellie -- make a note on your calendar on the day you see the last one, and transfer it to your 2014 calendar.

we usually have a few that stay all year
speaking of boiling the nectar       I know how to do that (5 mins)
not sure of proportions   is 1 C sugar     1 qt water the correct ratio?
I've not been able to find it so far           so i'll have to start making my own
at least I have a lot of empty bottles to store it in

i'm moving my feeders and hanger closer to my porch       so I can just fill them more easily     expecting (and hoping)  for lots of rain this fri-mon
