: Humming Birds

This is something I have never seen before. This woman lives in a Hummingbird fly zone.

As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard.  She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water, and this is the result.

The woman is Abagail Alfano of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand.

The say when they land, they are as light as a feather.  Abagail also said, 'if she had known her husband was taking pictures she would have put on makeup.'

I'm very sorry the photos did not post .......... I've seen them so I know how great they are.

When I lived out in the country I managed to have the delightful birds land on my fingertips when I placed them on the feeder perches.
Here, in town, I don't have so many birds but I love every one of them.

I couldn't see the pictures either.  My hummingbirds are back.  I've heard them buzzing around, which reminds me I need to get my feeders out.

We have two suction cup feeders at different windows and wondered why we kept hearing thuds.  We found out that sparrows, as well as house finches have been visiting the humming bird feeders.  When they leave, their weight causes the feeder to thump against the window pane.  We thought birds were flying into the window panes by mistake.  lol

My downy woodpeckers drink more than their share AND - ta da - the orioles are here.  They love the hummer "juice" more than the fresh oranges and grape jelly I put out for them

Can't see the pictures above, but looked them up online.  Very Cool!  It is amazing how they landed on her.

Our hummingbirds continue to be active both here at our home in Pine Bluff, AR and at our condo in Hot Springs, AR.  They are so interesting to watch.

I couldn't see the pictures either, but like others, I've seen them before.   I'm having a problem keeping my two hummingbird feeders full because the house finches are drinking out of the feeders.  I didn't think they could get their bills into the feeder holes but they are getting the sugar water and like it!  Guess I should go check the feeders now!

The photos do not show up for me either.  There was another post with animals that I could not view either.  Pretty sure it is "security" on each individual computer.  If you could post the website or email it to me through the PM feature I would love to see them.

I couldn't see the pictures either, but we have 2 feeders that we have hanging from our patio cover.  We also have Agapanthas (sp?) that the hummer's (as we call them) love.  They sort of rotate between the flowers and the feeders.  My husband has trouble keeping both filled.  Ours are very territorial, and tend to chase away other hummers.  We rarely get more than one bird at each feeder unless they are from the same family.  My son has a nest in one of his patio lights.  It is so fun to watch the two little beaks emerge when MaMa comes home with some food.

When we were back in NY for a visit last summer, I bought a swing for hummingbirds.  I had never heard of it before, but I liked the idea of it.  I showed it to my s-in-law and ended up leaving it with her.  Just last week, she called to tell me that the hummers were actually swinging on the apparatus.  I haven't been able to find another one for my yard so I guess I'll go on the net and try to find one, since the apparently enjoy it.
