GRANA here;
My Mom ad a HB feeder @ her Oregon home. Each year  Iwould visit & spent hours on her patio enjoying  the actions of those  bumble bee sized birds. We tied to hang one hereinN.H but condo rules do not alow them "they attract  unwanted creatures&  pests" So I guess I must go to the ZOO now to see them LIVE

be patient   watch early am and around dusk, although mine come all times of the day  and they are fast movers   they will come up and ck it out several times before they actually eat and will chase others off if they come while they're there, but if you don't see them could mean that you weren't watching when they came

notice I have a rose bush nearby, also a 9 ft colorful umbrella above the one on my deck to shade my window and red cushions on my chairs

I have hummingbirds.  I saw one the other day by one of my plants so I real quick made some nectar for it and hung out a feeder.  Well they have been by everyday since then.  I think the main reason is my neighbor who has several feeders out is gone on vacation so I am now the spot to get a bite to eat.
These little guys are so fascinating to watch.

glad for you, now when she comes home  they will flit back and forth between the feeders   even more fun watching
mary l
i'm also glad you're having results

i'm now up to 4  one is very like Rodrigo     another I call Ruby   because he's a ruby-throat
and li'guy is very tiny

my niece next door  who has remarried, rehabilitated and actually cleaned up her yard
has 5 feeders  all but one I can see from my morning spot    I came home last week and she had put out a new one on a stake that was lower than mine , but I was not able to see it and I asked her to move it over about 3 ft towards mine     and she actually did
it's so much entertainment watching them try to decide where to eat           but they do have a taste off each

I have 3 Crape Myrtle trees in my backyard that the hummers love, so we see lots of them nearly all year. Often when I'm gardening I'll hear them fly by and sometimes they even linger a little nearby...kind of like, "What are you doing in my domain???"

Still waiting to see a hummer swing on the darling swing we put out beside the feeder.  My SIL has seen them on the swing we gave to her, up in the Buffalo, NY area.

I took some pictures of "my" hummingbirds one came right up to the window and I think he looked right at me but darted off before I could snap a photo.  He was showing off his bright red throat patch.
This is just so much fun watching them.  I am glad that after 2 years they decided to give my house a try. Now that they know I am sure it will be on their route.

I never thought about putting a perch out for the hummingbird.  He does sit on part of the arm that the feeder hangs from. I will have to look in my garage to see if I have a swing left from the move...all sorts of "treasures" in the garage and basement that I need to go through.  It has been a "winter project" for two years now.  (Is it that we have not had a winter or that I have procrastinated...) I have lots of winter projects I guess I should prioritize them and really make an effort to get them done.

Hi Nellie -- yesterday I suggested you go to National Wildlife Fed., to see some hummingbird swings.  Well, today I got my usual paper catalog from Duncraft -- www.duncraft.com - and went to their site. WOW!  They have several swings -- each one is GORGEOUS.

I do not have a place to hang anything like that but I did buy 3 pkgs of bee guards for a hummer feeder.
