They are having a special prices day today at the horse races in Virginia.  25 CENTS(!) each buys your admission, a program, a hot dog, a drink, or a bag of chips.  Now, THAT is affordable entertainment!  You don't have to bet on the horses either.  You can just watch.  Plus they have free parking.  I like to watch the horses race anyway.  But I don't go to the actual track too often.  The prices for food and drinks are usually a lot higher.  I watched the Kentucky Derby on TV, but it is not the same as a live race.

We have a beautiful track nearby..Arlington Park.  It is a beautiful place, the setting is gorgeous the grounds are beautiful and the horses are magnificent.
Now $0.25 is a deal you almost can't pass up!
If I go to the track I will bet a few dollars but will keep what I win and when the set amount is gone so am I.  That set amount is never more than $20.00 (usually less) and I consider that my entertainment "fee".

Have only attended a horse race once.................in Florida while I was there for a National Bowling Tournament..........many, many years ago!  However, we have Harness Racing here, and that is great fun!  Don't gamble over my limit, and that makes it even more fun.

I have been to Golden Gate Fields several times for charity "Day at the Races" events.  I enjoy the races, but don't gamble.  What I really enjoy is the buffet in the clubhouse for lunch!

I am way too frugal to bet on anything, so horse racing has never peeked my interest.

That is a great deal Pat!  Wish Arlington Park would do that once in a while, I would love it.  Like Nikki, I never bet a lot on the races.  Twenty dollars for the entire day is about my limit too lol.

I would love to see jump racing (steeplechasing).  it is much more interesting than flat racing. When i lived near Atlanta there was  a race nearby and it was much fun to watch.  Jumping is quite thrilling

Went once before my husband and I were married.  I had never been before.  Bet, not much, but won.  Haven't been since.

I agree with the "entertainment fee" idea about betting on horses.  To me it is not really very different than paying (a fortune) to see a movie in the theater.  I never win much because I won't place big bets.  But I do have fun.

You should watch for a "special" they have at the track.  Sometimes they have package deals for food and/or entertainment.
It is a lot of fun & the horses are beautiful.  No one makes you gamble.  But the track hopes you will. Smile

I have seen harness racing, but I didn't like it as much.  Sometimes the track here in VA lets people ride in the little buggy things.
The harness racing seems slower to me.  Gambling is not the point of going to me.  Winning is fun....but I am a poor loser, so I
refuse to risk much. LOL

It was a lot of fun.  The only down side was that a thunderstorm came thru & a lot of the horses were scratched from the remaining races.  Of course you can't blame them for not wanting to risk the horses in the mud.  One race only had 4 horses.  That was odd. Undecided

I have never been to a horse race, but if I could get that 25 cents deal, I would definitely consider it.

I enjoyed the buffet in the clubhouse too.  I won a trip to the races once.  It included a private room (with a dozen other people) and the buffet, plus programs and a few trinkets like a t-shirt.  That was a lot of fun too.  As you can tell, (with my excitement over the 25 cent specials) I would never pay that much for it.  LOL
