Either high hopes or he is just looking for a sip of nectar.  Could also be a few insects that he may be trying to catch.

Oh, my goodness!   I've been feeding hummingbirds for 40 years and I've never before seen a LIZARD on a feeder.   Orioles - yes.  Woodpeckers - yes.  Every sort of bee, wasp, ant - yes .......... but never once a lizard.

Here in MO we can telephone our conservation dept with any sort of question.   Does TX do anything like that?

the county has a home extension service  for many things yes
and texas also has an info line   as well as texas A&M

and that was the second time I saw him on that feeder   he climbed up the pole    he may have been there more than that

Maybe (?) the lizard is on that feeder waiting for insects?
If he is - please catch him and send him here.

That's a little Anole. We had those when we were kids. They eat bugs and small worms. He probably likes the bright red color of the feeder. He's probably looking for something to drink. They do change colors to camouflage themselves. But not bright red :)

I think he has discovered if he waits long enough it is easier to catch insects this way.  Ants, flies, bees all attracted to the sugar water.  All he has to do is relax and wait for a meal to come to him.
