This quote really hit home with me since all I have been doing this week is going through papers that I have been "collecting".
I have been getting rid of a lot of them and wondering why I ever kept them in the first place.

I guess as long as the items have a place it is called collecting not hoarding.

Debbie, I went through a stack of pages pulled from magazines and newspapers all with recipes that I thought sounded so good. I finally realized that I will never make all these things. Some were similar to recipes I already had so keeping the recipe made no sense. I did keep some and I will most likely toss them out some time..........

Good quote Verlee. I've been trying to "declutter" my house since my daughter moved out. About once a month Amvets comes and takes more "stuff" lol. Still have a long way to go.

I dread ever having to move from this house because that will really cause a panic. My basement still holds things from my mother-in-law who passed away ten years ago. It was all brought here for a garage sale and then promptly forgotten by those family members. But I have a plan...........ask them what they want of the remaining items and if I get no response, it's gone. Sometimes you just have to put your foot down lol.

H.M., that's what my parents did when they moved from the farm to a small house in town. They told all 6 of us kids to come and take what we wanted. The rest was sold in the farm auction!!!

great stories i cleaned out all my clutter in 1999 when we were selling our house i had 20 big bags of trash and i found more when unpacking when we moved into our new house my husband had bought with us all the old house bills we had paid it was over 12 years of it more trash to get rid of

In regard to MANY recipes....this is a comical picture that was in the cartoon section of our daily paper. It shows a woman at her computer, and she says..."OOO. This Holiday dessert recipe looks yummy. I think I'll print it." Her husband is standing near her and he says...."You have a file cabinet FULL of recipes you've printed off. The only way 99% of them will ever make it into our stomachs is if we eat the printer paper!" That is soooo true at our house. I have 5 three-ring notebooks FULL of recipes. I won't live long enough to try even half of them!! I think I'll do some thinning out of those books.

The funny thing about recipes is no matter what I have on paper I can get on line. I have printed out recipes from this site as well as All Recipes and King Arthur. I print them, make them and file the paper. Next time I go to make the cookie, cake, pie, bread or what ever I can't locate the paper so I go back on line and look at it again. Why do I bother to either print it the first time or save it after I make what ever it is.

Really good ones I want to find later get written or taped into the cover of one of my favorite cookbooks. That way I always know where it is. Other "keepers" are tucked into the pages of the cookbook.

I know others do the same thing. I went to a HUGE book sale (Newberry Library in Chicago if you want to check it out) and there were two identical books. One very new looking and one that was a bit worn looking with some stains on it and a lot of recipes cut from magazines and newspapers. Both were the same price. guess what one I purchased? Yup, the one with the recipes tucked in the pages. I got Maida Heatter's book of Great Chocolate Desserts for $1.00.
