I buy a few in-shell filberts from a catalog but the cost + postage is awful.
What do you do with filberts?

I don't use either of these nuts, but noticed the predictions about pecans have come true. Pecans are about $8/lb. Yikes. And we know the price may ease a bit in the future, but not that much. Once they've marked it up, that's about all she wrote.

A couple of months ago Sprouts had a sale on Hazelnuts for $4.99 a pound.
I got almost 2 pounds and they are in the freezer. I will check what the price
is this coming Wed.  I know pecans are really high this year too!  I will have to
use walnuts instead!  Costco still has walnuts at $4.99 lb. in a 3 lb. bag.

I haven't checked the prices on those nuts. Our discount store has walnuts for $5 a pound and almonds $3.99 a pound.I'm going to grab some more of these this week along with cranberries 2/$3 those are the best prices around here.I use more walnuts than anything else. But I would love to make a pecan pie for Christmas.I let the guys pick out two of their favorite cookies and I make those for Christmas along with other baked goods.I love to eat cookies but hate to make them,I have two painful hands and cookies are just too difficult for me to make sometimes.

Not yet &probably won't check the cost) They are hubby's favorite nut & if he wants them we'll buy them anyway.Nuts are  a great snack & since almonds &pecans are up in price, too & peanuts exclusively can be boring; he'll;probably" bite the bullet" & buy whichever nut he choosesMoney mouth

Why are nuts increasing in cost, even more than other food items??????????
I  guess ecause it's coookie baking sason& the word'sgotten out about how good nuts are for us!
Pomegranateswere once almost given away( 2& 3 for $1 Now 2/$3 in a gA 1/2 gallon is  only 47% juice( store's brand even lower.
They ran a ( 2 WEEK) sale (brand name) 2/$4 1/2 gallon & thestorehasbeen out sincethefirstday  & now new botles came in delilveries.I got a  RAINCHECKYell
Cranberryjuice& green tea ( "ealthy"drinks are  also proportionately higher too.
Beef ( w/it's own warnings is so low in price, we can afford to eat a 6 oz steak instead of a 2-3 oz steak. We stil usually eat the smalleramount & cover it up( smothered) w/onion&portobello mushroom saute.... ; filingup on veggies instead of meat....We get ourprotein, instead, from  Greek  yogurt &nuts)Most other cultures use meat for a flavoring &not as the main item, so eating International( at home or out) makes eating more affordable.
It seems  that if a food has known health benefits, the cost goes up. Snack foods( refined flour, sugar  w/ no nutritional value are cheaper these days butifyou are eating to fuel your body
they are no bargain!Frown

I have no holiday recipes which call for hazelnuts, but as others have said, pecans are also insanely priced...my annual pecan pie was almost more expensive than the rest of the Thanksgiving feast!
