No-Churn Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe

It'll take you just 10 minutes to prep this satisfying and delicious homemade vanilla ice cream. The best part? You don't need one of those silly ice cream machines! Now that's magic, if you ask us.

Ingredients
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
2 tablespoons bourbon (optional)
2 cups cold heavy cream

Directions
In a medium bowl, stir together condensed milk, vanilla, and Bourbon, if desired. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat cream on high until stiff peaks form, 3 minutes. With a rubber spatula, gently fold whipped cream into condensed milk mixture. Pour into a 4 1/2-by-8 1/2-inch loaf pan. Freeze until firm, 6 hours.

Cook's Note: Freeze, covered, up to 1 week.

I have an ice cream maker, I have had it for a while my problem is that you have to freeze the bowl for at least 24 hours before you make the ice cream.
2 problems with that...
Who has room in the freezer to keep a bowl?
Putting the bowl in the freezer 24 hours means I have to plan ahead.

I guess it would be much easier if I just kept the bowl in the freezer all the time so it would be ready when I wanted it.

I bought one like that blind    no info on box  so I took it back
another problem with those is the size            go to all that trouble to end up w/ about a quart
if you have to plan so far ahead      it's easier to buy a bag of ice and rock salt and make it the way we always did        at least you get a gallon         and family fun cranking the handle (unless it's electric)

I have the same kind of ice cream maker (Cuisinart?)  Yes, you have to freeze the bowl ahead of time.  I have a large freezer in our garage, so I keep it in there all the time.  I usually only make ice cream in the summer, but it is always handy when you want it.  I used to have a Krups, but I like the Cuisinart better.  I took the Krups up to our condo at Tahoe, but I don't think anyone has used it up there.

My favorite ice cream recipes come from Alton Brown on the Food Channel web site.  They are decadent, but also call for 8 egg yolks!!!

Thanks, Maxine for the recipe, I think I have seen a similar one in "Cooks" magazine.

I like the quart size....if I made a gallon it would be so easy to eat a gallon of it!
Barbara mine is also a Cuisinart and I do like it, got it at Sam's quite a while ago and it came with a second bowl.  Like if I don't have room in the freezer for one bowl I have room for two!!!
I really do have to go through the freezer and clear stuff out.  I have things that really don't have to be in there all the time. chocolate, butter, cookie crumbs and things like that.  So in theory some of that stuff could come out while the bowl froze.

Oh, I guess that is the other "problem" planning ahead and making the base a day in advance so it can chill.

I wonder if I make the ice cream and put it in a heavy freezer bag  if it will change the consistency of the frozen package. I also have a problem with space in my freezer.
