If only everyone in this world had the freedom that we, here in The United States, are so blessed to have, it would be a wonderful world.  Wouldn't that be great?!!!

GRANA here;
In  this, " the land of  the free" we (condo dwellers are not free to fly any flagsSurprised
[ condo by-laws]( meaning,I think,those hose silk holiday banners.UndecidedWe kept our U.S.flag up anyway (while son  was out at sea)  till he retired from the navy...It took a  long, hard fight  til I convinced  that   beaurocratic fool, threatening us w/ fines  that he'd lose if he fined us,as thtreatened & we took him to court.While the flag was up[( while son was out at sea/activeduty); it began to rot.It was removed & properly disposed of through the VFW &  not replaced We're just too old to battle  over so many things , these daysEmbarassed

Ann, you mention the proper disposal of "old" flags.
There is a funeral home in my community that asks for donations of the flags that are no longer in good condition.  The flags are used to drape the caskets of veterans while they are cremated.
This might be an idea for others as well as the VFW.

The popping of our city's fireworks display can be heard (and seen) from my backyard, and serves as a reminder to be grateful for the opportunity to live freely. Thank you to those who provide and safeguard this freedom.

I would buy 1 or more of the smaller ones on a wooden stick & put it on a windowsill, or if you have an end table in front of a window, you could get a larger one & place on the table so it could be seen from outside.
I have a few of the small flags & put them in vases throughout the house, I bought fake roses (2  blue, 2 red & 2 white) &  put 1 of each color in white vases ( I have 2 the same) on the mantel & have a flag in each. Another vase in the kitchen with carnations has a flag (I put the flags in for Flag Day & leave them in till Aug. 1.  The foyer vase gets changed for each of  the 4 seasons, but that one always has a flag in it. I have  real big red, white & blue bows on the front door (1 outside & 1 inside) that will stay up all of July.

GRANA here;
 On WEDNESDAY NIGHT, the noisy fireworks began@ 8:30PM  & stopped  before 11PM We went to bed early to prepare for today's busy day loaded w/ errands& tasks
In past years, the boom boom bang; whistles lasted til 1AM & residentsfor a mile around the park complained formally each year.We we just groaned grunted s each noisy  display woke us up  & made our cats fearfull.When our kids were young, we would either go to the park or watch from the hills & enjoyed every noisy hour of t. fit.Thefirst year heer( 1987)I woluld watch chfrom one ofourwindows but  disliked he noise& what it  did to our cats& neighbor's dogs.These days,I watchboth Boston & DC observances (/  mlitatyorc oncert bands,fantastic displays & theTV volumn on lowI 'sbeautiful butyit's moreenjoyablew/ a lower  decible noise levelWink
