Well, it's going to be that time shortly to start the flower or vegetable gardens. So how many of you have the green thumb and what is going to be growing in your garden this summer?

Here - my little condo - there's not an inch in the "lawn" I can plant.  2009, my first summer here, I put tomato plants in huge flower pots full of fine potting soil.  I got some tomatoes but they soon died with some fungus.
Last year I scrubbed those pots raw, bought new potting soil and tried again.  The plants has that fungus in no time.  I think I got 3 little tomatoes.
This year I won't try a thing  ~sigh~
I like tomatoes more than cookies !!

I always plant tomatoes, several types of peppers, cucumbers, onions and herbs. But this year, I am not putting out a single thing until I know what is going on with my leg. I spent two hours in the MRI machine Thursday only to be told that the doctors who read them have already left for the day. Wasn't my fault he darned machine broke down! I was only there from 2pm until about 6:30pm.

I grow tomatoes in 5 gal. pots. We don't have good dirt here in CA so I use Miracle
Grow  continuous feed for 3 months. I love home grown tomatoes. I planted the herb
rosemary just once and it keeps on growing and getting bigger and bigger.

Last year the garden was downsized since it is just the 2 of us(I do give to the kids & a few neighbors) I will have tomatoes(hopefully cherry, grape, beefstake & 1 or 2 other type), bell peppers, onions onions & more onions(red, white & yellow), cucumbers (only 3 plants) acorn squash & maybe zucchini (usually 2 plants each) & I have my chives, dill, peppermint & parsley. Almost forgot leaf lettuce.

I grow tomatoes (prefer the heirloom varieties) and raspberries, and swap out different veggies every year in our fenced area - love to try new things.  This year I will try my luck at potatoes.  I also do lots of flowers - I have wonderful daffodils, and some really magnificent tulip stems.  Ah, yes - when we bought this house I had no idea that the deer would neatly eat off the tulip buds - so I planted hundreds of bulbs...they still come up, and give the deer their springtime treat! I also plant flowers in pots on out deck.  Darn - now I want to start planting stuff!!!

Wa Ha K ... when will you hear from the docs about the MRI results?  I hope it's not a long wait.
I'm not scheduled  for and MRI until May.  And Barnes hospital has that method where you get the dye (or whatever)
for the second part of the process automatically so it's so much faster.  They do my brain in about 45 minutes and I go
directly to the neurosurgeon's office.  In a few minutes he has the results in his hand and tells me about it .... and I head home.

My husband has always put in a big garden.  Last year he planted but then never did anything with it so the weeds took over.  I will move the garden closer to the house so he can see it and maybe then he will work in it.
As for what we always plant....10 to 12 pepper plants Bell, Banana and Jalapeno.  10 to 12 tomato plants a combination of roma, sweet 100's, and beefsteak. Swiss Chard, Green Beans, Cucumbers, Onions, Zucchini and a few other things that may strike our fancy.  Biggest problem I have is right next to the garden there are several Black Walnut Trees and there is an acid that is emitted from the roots and from the nuts that kills most of the stuff we want growing in the garden.  So moving the garden may have a double benefit.

Lucky you! I love summer tomatoes. We haven't had a garden in years since we leave FL for a few months and head up North and there is no time to do this. Fortunately, my sister-in-law lives in PA and she has a great garden with tomatoes, zucchini, etc.

I always make my own flower hanging baskets, I plants flowers around my mail box and in from of the house.  I love gardening but I hate the weeding part of it.  I wish I could grow money like I do weeds!  Hee Hee!!!

We always plant about 5 or 6 varieties of tomatoes.  I have an herb box that grows year round, but the basil, parsley, and a few other herbs die out due to the frost.  So they need to be replanted.  The thyme, and chives along with the oregano have survived.  The rosemary is very hardy and always lasts.  It i is a different spot now as it grew so big.  My husband always plants a variety of bedding plants for color .  He is really the gardner in the family, but he does believe in the survival of the fittest.  We have quite a number of roses, that are bursting out with leaves...blooms soon.
