Went shopping Thr. evening & the Labor Day sales are not good. I did get Ball Park Franks for $ 1.00 at Kroger, the other store had them on sale2 for $5.00. Freshlike canned vegs. were 1/2  off (not all, just select ones) & I bought some carrots & French cut green beans (exp. date 2014), Kroger also had 16 oz. cottage cheese & sour cream on sale for $1.00 (Oct 5 date). The other store that puts the Angus gr. chuck on sale for the holidays, had it on sale, BUT at 29 cents a # more, I noticed that the store brand sugar was 30 cents more & a friend told me that Aldies sugar was 40 cents more than 2 weeks ago when she bought some.  I was going to buy some store brand microwave popcorn that was on sale (the 3 count), but I found 4 boxes of their 6 count that was priced cheaper (exp date of May 2013) so I bought them. A lot of items (that I know the reg. prices of ) had reg. prices that were higher than last Fri. when I shopped.
I am thankful we are empty nesters, I do not know how we would manage with school age kids to feed.

This last shopping da,I saw one cart filled w/ juice drink boxes;  asst. chips &  other nutrition lacking snack items inJUMBO bags, ; no  protein sources no fruits or veggies; &  to my best guess well over $100 worh of  non-nutritive  garbage. Hubby &  i  BOUGHT LOTS OF  IMPULSE ITEMS, TOO:  30 BOTTLES OF "LITE" beer($9.99; 2- 2litre bottles of  soda( gingerale & root beer);    lemonade& icedtea mixes; 3 cans ofcat food; chex mix; crispy fish filets,  hot dogs , sliced low carb bread, = of 30 eggs( cholesterol & fat free) cheese slices( fat free);  a # of hubby's bologna ; several cans of soup( chicken noodle &  tomato,  chicken broth), Shopping from the  flyer/ad; marked down racks&  using coupons, we spent  $69; way vov our r budget but  we've got  ou r LABOR  DAY must haves &  food for thee next few weekswhich when   combined w/ instock pantry & ezer items, will become pretty  good nutritous  meals
This woman was shopping mid -day on aWednesday, not  seeming to be working & spent 2x .$$$$$$$$$$$$  what we spent & probably wil get take-out to feed the  family  all week; 'cuz what she bought  wil not  feed her  family sufficiently & will leave them hungry  for the rest of the  day, even  after eatingFrown

Lately the sale prices are higher than what the everyday price used to be.  Meat is especially high, as is anything made with flour or sugar.  I can't believe how much a 4 pound bag of sugar costs now, ridiculous.  Thankfully I have a freezer full of meat and am mostly just buying fresh, in-season fruits and veggies.  Unfortunately the season is quickly coming to an end and I'm sure the prices will jump.  Freezing peppers and tomatoes so I have them on hand when that happens.

This week a 4 pound bag of sugar was on "sale" for $1.88.  I remember not too long ago sale was 99¢.  I saved $35 according to my grocery receipt by getting sale items and using coupons.  I spent $42.  Almost a 50% saving.  I love getting sale items when I have coupons for those items.
I find that most coupons in the Sunday paper are for stuff I don't use.  I probably only cut out 3 or 4.

Got the Aldis ad & I noticed that several of the special sale items are 10 cents more this week.  The one store that I shop at weekly has had a buy 10 for $ 10.00 & get 1 free sale now & then for several years, BUT this week they have a $ .99 sale ( no free item & not too many items listed)& several sale items in the ad are 10 to 25 cents more than the past sales.

Prices are too high here and my bill for the months has gone up $100 from what I used to pay for a month and that is useing store brands instead of what I use to buy.
