I went shopping the other day and I'm just sick over the prices on groceries.They keep going up and up.Ground beef 80/20 on sale is $2.99 a # that's twice as much as before.Everything seems to be 50 c

Me neither! I'm staying in my nice cozy house,stuffing myself like a turkey,taking a nap if I want to because I deserve to after all that cooking ! Then I shall enjoy dessert with a nice cup of coffee and watch movies.

We will be going to stepson and family in Menifee(75 miles) for Thanksgiving.

I will not go out on Black Friday at all!!!! I haven't for several years now!

Add to the list of items purchased for$43; last week:
12chocolatecovered ice creambars;onastick(like DOVEbars butstore's own generic brand;
3 cups of light desertlikeyogurt cups: strawberry shortcake; black forrest cake& 3 bery torte( all high alcium Vit D; low fat & only 100 calories each .Seeing th comercial for so many weeks made me give in when the low sale price& coupos got them for 1/2 price.
Just because we're not going to any holiday parties doesn'tmean we can't induge ourelves in sweet treats this holiday season

Hubby did not even know what"blackFriday"was until he asked me last week.He shops onine all year for bargains on what he plans to buy & never ever goes out shopping during the holiday season
(he cannnot stand the mad crowd atmosphere)
Being in wheelchair I dare not risk being the cause of injury to others tripping over me in their hunt for bargains, so I too stay at home during the mad shopping season. Gift certificates;pre-paid credit cards are alwaysappreciated( byfamily& friends)
.We give each other: new shoes, coats, gloves,sweaters; & a special meal /dessert cooked at home or a meal eaten out; works or me

I did real good at our regular grocery store with coupons and sale items.I saved a little over 50% and received $12 off my next shopping trip.Walnuts at our discount store were $5 a pound,skin on bone in chicken breast was.99 cents a pound,Italian sausage was $2.49 a pound.Next weeks sales don't look as good but I might not have to do any major shopping so that will work out just fine.

It looks like I will HAVE to go out Thanksgiving night to shop some of those great prices ---- rats, rats, rats --- I really need a printer and it's far past time to replace this computer. I can save very, very much $$ if I can make myself do this. rats rats rats.

I got sweet potatoes for 37 cents a pound. I noticed all sweet potatoes in all stores are HUGE. How are they in your stores? I also got a turkey for 55¢ a pound with $25 in other purchases. I got my $25 worth and everything was on sale.

The sweet potatoes are large this year.I spent a little less than 50% on my groceries yesterday but it was a lot of things to stock my pantry and any cupboard space I have.I bought 22 box's of hot cocoa @.75 cents a box.Some of these will go into gift baskets for Christmas.Our discount store had fresh cranberries 2/$3 everyone else has them @ 2/$4 I need to buy some more and freeze them.My brother is making cranberry wine,I can't wait until that is ready.

I think in general, grocery prices are cheaper in the midwest than they are on either coast. I've visited sisters on each coast and compare prices.

NY prices are outrageous! I'm using coupons, recycled bags, returning plastic bags, bottles & I'm still paying more. Thanksgiving costs us almost $500 & I said so much for sales & coupons. When I get mad at price increases/gauging, I think my Dad has the right idea-go to a restaurant. As much as a restaurant appals me on a holiday, it's better than spending so much money on the food I always eat so why the hike? My Dad said restaurants are dying & prices are ridiculously cheap...he & my 2 brothers made reservations & are paying $40 for a 4-course meal & guaranteed to be out in under 2 hours. I think it's a disgrace what this country has succumbed too - food, gas, housing, anything & everything has increased & the product's no better than before

Jeannine I have to agree with you,I have been a big coupon shopper for the past 16 years.Manufacturers are not giving out coupons like they used to,The product' s have shrunk and in some cases not even comparable in the quality they once were.But they continue to escalate in price,when does this stop?The newest trick is 1 1/2 liters of pop or 1 1/4 liters,that not for our benefit,My husband likes that size to take to work and I refuse to give in to their nonsense,it's all about giving us less and charging more.

I found Sweet and Low at GFS for $17.99 for a 2000 count box which is an excellent buy around here.A 250 count box in the regular store is over $5.We use that in our Iced tea, hot tea,coffee and even kool aid.I buy some diet pop once in awhile if it is on sale.I try to buy rice,flour and sugar in large bags.Rice will keep indefinitely in a cool dry place.I don't make any pre-made potatoes or rice all is home.Most of my coupon items are cleaning supplies,yogurt,meat,canned fruits and veggies,peanut butter,cheese,hot cocoa,noodles and pasta neither are mixes just the plain noodles or pasta.I just found 3.25 # containers of peanut butter filled pretzels for $4.88 a piece at our discount store,they are from Costco.I bought 5 containers and I will buy more if they still have them next week thats a better snack than chips and such.The jars that the pretzels came in will be recycled for storing rice ,flour,sugar and other dry goods.Each one with hold 5+ lbs. of sugar and flour and of course homemade dog cookies.

Prices keep going up and the coupons keep getting scarier. The P&G insert in today's paper had a coupon for 25 cents off of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Last month the same coupon was for 50 cents off(of course that is not expired). And to top it all off, the size of the bottles has gone down!

I think it is only going to get more difficult to find good coupons. Too bad we can't boycott all the companies until they become more reasonable in sizing and pricing. But then they know that and probably don't really care.

Getting off my soapbox now lol. Thanks for letting me rant.

Hi H.M.,I hear ya! We shouldn't buy anything unless it's on sale maybe they would get the message. I bought 16 bottles of Dawn quite awhile ago and just ran out.The reason I bought so many was if you bought 4 for $10 they gave you a coupon worth $5 off your next shopping bill.I had coupons on the Dawn also,so I ended up paying ..75 cents apiece for them.If the coupons are good I will buy several Sunday papers at a discount on Monday morning at our grocery store and a few friends who don't like Dawn give me their coupons.Take advantage of any coupons that you have because if history repeats it's self the month of January is a dry month ( NO COUPONS ) It's interesting how these stores can double and triple coupons and still make a profit.Why can't they just offer lower prices and forget all about coupons.I'm not an extreme couponer but I do take advantage of sales and items I do use on a regular basis.Saving money on these types of things frees up money to spend on meats,vegetables,fruit,milk,eggs and other things on sale of course.

Gale, I rarely buy an item that is not on sale. I stock up on sale items (of course I check the exp. dates). I have a nice supple of beef & chicken broth & Ocean Spray cranberry sauce,15 oz. pumpkin & Dole pineapple all with 2013 dates. I have Nestle hot cho. from last year &( hubby had a cup Sun. evening) I so far have not seen it on sale this season. I like to buy about 10 boxes when it is on sale as long as the exp. date is a long way off. I just used some tuna that I bought on sale before Easter that exp. Nov.2013. Whenever kleenex, the bath tissue & laundry detg. that I like goes on sale, I buy at least one. Hubby has a supple of coffee & I have several boxes of tea.
Dec. should be good for restocking the brown & powdered sugars & other baking supplies.
The only items on my weekly list to buy that are not sale items are bananas & iceberg lettuce. It bugs me to pay full price for something. I have enough shampoo, conditioner & liquid hand soap to last about 2 years.

I did well again this week,I spent just under $105.00 and saved $57.77.I was able to buy more things to stock the pantry and whever else I have room.They had ground beef for $1.99 I bought 12# This is a decent price compared to what it has been.Now I just need to fill in and we should be set for awhile.
