Prices are high.  Packages are smaller, you get less product and the prices are higher.  Frightening.  When will it all end.

The cost of living has been rising for years. The effects of global conditions have changed our lives. We can only hope that we survive it all. Community gardens, careful shopping, not wasting water, and clean air all are part of our grocery prices

I was tossing old newspapers and located some Quaker Oats coupons that would expire 4/30/2013  I returned to the triple coupon sale. I purchased Quaker rice cake,  granular bars, medley, and soft baked cinnamon over 25.00 total however I only paid 3.02.

Eggs seem to be on sale at a lot of the stores this week.  Maybe that's so we don't notice that  the "sale" prices on meat have almost doubled since last year!  The only bright side is that some fruit and vegetables seem to be on sale more often lately.

With the rising cost of living I can find wonderful bargains in the grocery store weekly. I sometimes go in grocery stores that I do not shop in to check prices and find manufactured coupons that can be used in stores that I prefer to shop in. I do not waste gasoline or time running from store to store

GRANA  here;
 grocery prices are so high that hubby has given up  on snacks to cut back on food  costs
Of course taking 2 helpings of  dessert & "saving one for later"  helps him survive the loss of snacks; he enjoys raw veggies& fruits( dried & raw) as meal supplements @what  was once "snack  time"

GRANA here;
 colder climate conditions are expected to cause coffee& cocoa prices to rise.
We already have 3)2# JUMBO cans of Premium coffee&  1/2# can of baking cocoa in the pantry. The cocoa powder makes good hot cocoa for these cooler 50' mornings....enjoyable  even w/o cookies
Wink!!

GRANA here;
 Hubby walked to the store  to get  this week's sales flyer and returned w/a triple chocolate bubdtcake for only $2.99 It  came in a Reusable cake taker   smaller  than my other ones, it will be just  right for my 8" Boston cream pie which I don't make very often due to  lack of proper sized storage container......NO EXCUSES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..He also got  a big bag of oranges priced
$.50
less  than they were   on Wednesday & we both agree they're the best oranges this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bundt cake was made from   a fudgie BROWNIE BATTER drenched in chocolate syrup   covered w/ mini semi-sweet morsels;  &  made a GREAT BREAKFAST &  2 good desserts w/lots still  leftover for enjoyment tomorrow & beyond
Wink
Either prices have peaked Undecided& are starting to drop or I've blown  a fuse &  no longer feel the pain of higher prices Frown??????????

GRANA here;
 I've noticed that higher quality( choice cut) meats are being sold at  higher prices than before; select cut is about the same. We don't eat much red meat so it really doesn't effect our menus very much . seafood& chicken are  featured in the weekly sales flyers & eggs are down a bit; whole grain oats are lower priced as are whole grain cereals& breads; pastries are lower priced, often marked down by up to   50%    I  guess customers are giving pastries up to allow the purchase of meat,fish poultry , fruits& veggies ???? Ive switched from 93% lean ground beef to 93% lean ground turkey chest Laughingsaving $1_ or more# Both  taste the same in meatballs, butgers& meatloaf & suppl;ies = quality protein
.
Baking potatoes& potato salad redskin  potatoes are often offered @ sale prices; even deli made cole slaw & potato salads are priced $1 less # than last year Surprised Use a little imagination to help round oi your menus  by  changing side dishes round to use what is on sale each  week.
hot dogs buns& burger buns are on sale this week for 2/3 [ 12 pack'
 cans of tuna are $.80 & $1 can for  chunk light or solid white in water.;making a nice go w/ for the buns . I put away 6 cans of solid white tuna forSalad Nicoise over the summer.This is a composed salad of BIg chunks of white tuna srved on a bed of lettuce w/ crisp-tender  green beans and either potato salad or  cooked pasta shapes ( rotelle  or shells, even elbows deizzled w/ oil& vinegar dressing a sliced hard boiled egg is often used as a garnish for this salad of bright colors& varied textures... It is a one plate meal w/ few preparation steps or  utensils needed. I make up plates for each person early in the day; cover& keep chilled till serving time ; enjoying a few hours of relaxation in the hotter hours since dinner is RTG w/ little more effort from me.

GRANA here; It was chilly today (50' ) so I  made a hearty  meatless 2 Qt. pot of    soup using brown rice, lentils & canned tomatoes ( crushed  & diced)seasoned w/  Hungarian paprika &  garlic    for a highly  flavored peasant/farmer dsh/ meal
 I added in TVP (texturized rized soy protein) granules to give it the texture of ground meat while  adding no fats or cholesterol  &  very little carbs.I also made 24 one" German meatballs to  float in the soup.I made them w/ rye bread crumbs  &  caraway seeds paprika, garlic & minced onion.so the flavors will develop overnight into a soup similar to one my NANA made many years ago
