I went shopping the other day and I'm just sick over the prices on groceries.They keep going up and up.Ground beef 80/20 on sale is $2.99 a # that's twice as much as before.Everything seems to be 50 c

Gale, I rarely buy an item that is not on sale. I stock up on sale items (of course I check the exp. dates). I have a nice supple of beef & chicken broth & Ocean Spray cranberry sauce,15 oz. pumpkin & Dole pineapple all with 2013 dates. I have Nestle hot cho. from last year &( hubby had a cup Sun. evening) I so far have not seen it on sale this season. I like to buy about 10 boxes when it is on sale as long as the exp. date is a long way off.   I just used some tuna that I bought on sale before Easter that exp. Nov.2013. Whenever kleenex, the bath tissue & laundry detg. that I like goes on sale, I buy at least one. Hubby has a supple of coffee & I have several boxes of tea. Dec. should be good for restocking the brown & powdered sugars & other baking supplies. The only items on my weekly list to buy that are not sale items are bananas & iceberg lettuce. It bugs me to pay full price for something . I have enough shampoo, conditioner & liquid hand soap to last about 2 years.

Hi Fran you are just like me I won't buy things that aren't on sale or I have a coupon to be doubled. I love to hear about people saving big.It's kind of fun to be able to do that.It started out to be a hobby and now it's necessary.I taught my brother how to shop and he does real well.I also stock up on deodorant ,soap,shampoo,tooth paste,etc.I haven't seen Nestles cocoa on sale here either but I did get another brand for .75 cent a piece with my coupons.Now is the time to stock up on baking supplies for sure.After the first of the year coupons will be scarce until April if history repeats itself. I still can't figure out how the extreme couponers do it.I wouldn't want all they have but it sure would be nice to walk out with a cartful of groceries for $20.

Sunday I paid 89 cents for a loaf of French bread and 3.99 for a store brand baked pumpkin pie.

We all know that gas prices vary enormously in different areas of the country.  I wonder about grocery prices ........ How much is a gallon of 2% milk where you life?   A loaf of Wonder Bread?  Head of iceberg lettuce?

Last week all milk was on sale for $2.59 ( reg. price was $ 3.29), iceberg lettuce has been $ 1.29 a head (I did not buy any the past 2 week because the heads were the size of a grapefruit & rusty) Wonderbread (if I remember correctly) was $2.99(older son hated it when he was in school so I never bought it again) Aunt Millie bread is $3.79 so I only buy it on sale.

I got some 100% whole wheat bread on sale for $1.99 (don't buy wonderbread) yesterday  and last lettuce I got was $2 for a huge bunch of leaf lettuce (don't buy iceburg either) at the organic store

In general grocery prices are much lower in the midwest (as is gas) than on either coast.  Don't know about the south east

Nancy,2 % milk here has been $2.49 a gallon on sale,I don't buy iceberg lettuce any more we eat the darker greens like Romaine and baby spinach,I found out iceberg lettuce has very little nutrients and no health benefits for your heart.I buy 12 grain bread,pita bread and flat out flat bread,which I use for wraps.I make white bread here,but that is so much different than the white bread in the store.I'm a coupon and sale fanatic,unless there is a coupon or a sale I won't buy it.

This morning I got butter for $1.77 a pound at Hy-Vee.  Anything under $2 is a great bargain.  Must have butter for cookies.

$2.50 has been the cheapest for butter.Last year I had about 25# in my freezer,I was paying about $1.50 a pound then,no great deals on butter this year.Today with coupons I was able to buy cake mix for 25 cents apiece,cream cheese .99 cents.I still managed to keep within my budget.

Interesting that I can get butter for under $2, but "Not Butter" in stick form is $3.  I've used that in cookies when it was on sale and I had a good coupon.  i don't think it works as well in the cookies as real butter

My produce bill has gone up a little,but that's because of the time of the year and of course walnuts being added.Meat prices remain high,but when I catch a break I sure take advantage of it.I spent $34.31 and saved $28.11 at our main grocery store, so that wasn't too bad.I can save 11% on the grocery bill with my food perks but I'm saving that for a larger bill when I don't have coupons.My discount store had great looking cucumbers 2 /$ 1 this week and last I bought 8 both times.

I always scour the ads for the best deals on the products I buy.  My personal motto is ' Never pay retail' .  I can usually find Milk on sale for $2 - $2.50 a gal. here in Ohio.  I've noticed milk is higher in other states. Always using coupons help bring the costs down too.

I "cherry pick" the sales.  I get an email form one store that I have one of the "saver or loyalty" cards and I add the sales to the card on line and the sale price is adjusted at the register. 
So because of that I got 1 gallon skim milk for $1.77 and butter for $1.99.  Another was a free spice.  You could chose any spice from 2 different labels up to a certain price.  I grabbed a ground ginger and rosemary. There were a few other sale prices that I took advantage of as well.
Not much we can do about the prices.
 
What I don't like and I think it is dishonest on the manufacturers part is the packaging.  The reduce the size of an item and keep the package the same. They will put a catchy note on the package like "Improved taste or New Package, same great taste" so you don't notice the size has gone from 16 ounces to 12 ounces.

GRANA here; grocery storeprices eem to have leveled off a it;BUT traditional foods for each holiday go up very high when the retailers know that we wll buy things no matterwhat theprice

I cannot eat Poinsettias 6.5 however they were on sale for 1.99. Healthy no bugs.
