In Response to Re: How are the grocery prices in your area?:
GRANA here; Prices here , like everywhere else are TOO HIGH ! Hubby (taught by me)to be a good shopper manages to keep us well supplied & w/ in our $50 week budget. One week he spends $23; another $62; We eat well thanks to my repetoire of international recipes(Asian; Itlalian , mid-east where less meat is consumed per capita, than here in the USA..... We also consume lots of seasonal fruits& veggies [ winter sqashes this time of year.I buy dry beans, soak & cook them myself rather than buying more costly canned cooked beans , which are salted & better for us both avoid anyway. . When peaches& berries are in season( summertime)I pkg& freeze them for winter meals[mixed ino yogurt or in whole grain cereals ..I bake cookies from scratch except when Nestlé's RTB cookies are on sale or I have a coupon, This way I can reduce sugars, increase whole grains, add dry fruits& nuts. getting nutritious & delicious treats at a lower cost. Hubby gets FREE cookie & cake samples(instore bakery)& we split one free piece between the 2 of us( lower calories fat &carbs but still a treat w/ a cup of good fresh brewed coffee or a mug of hot tea

Ann I agree with you about the beans. My mother always soaked beans on Friday night for baking on Saturday. I do this also (when I remember to soak of Friday). When I visit my sister I have to indulge in a can of "B&M beans. They are the best canned beans.
