How are the grocery prices in your area?

I went shopping the other day and I'm just sick over the prices on groceries.They keep going up and up.Ground beef 80/20 on sale is $2.99 a # that's twice as much as before.Everything seems to be 50 cents to a dollar more.I have always been able to save 50% or more on groceries and I'm beginning to think that is a thing of the past.Manufacturers are not offering coupons like they used to and they are not allowing double like before.Am I the only one or are you ladies experiencing similar prices in your areas?

They are skyrocketing here in the Catskills of NY State. It is all a result of the rising cost of gasoline. How much more can the American people take???

Yes! And I'm almost SCARED.
I make a batch of cookies and wonder about the price of the nice stuff I'm using. The cost increase is incredible. I wonder if the time is coming when I can no longer be so frivolous about what I cook.

They are going up in leaps and bounds here in Oshkosh, as well. I am certain that the cost of gas is the single biggest factor. It is scary - my weekly bill is almost twice as much as it was even six months ago. Even on weeks when I think I have a short list and it will be reasonable, when I check out I find that I have spent a hundred dollars, after coupons. Where will it end???

here in seaford de bread 1.88 not bad but coffee went up a small can of maxwell house is 4.98for 11 oz but off brand 2.00 its scary where am i to get the money to eat?

I spent about a hundred and fifty dollars yesterday on groceries after my coupons,I only saved $4 in coupons.My friend made the statement to me the other day that we will all be eating beans and rice pretty soon,she may be right! I cook most of our food and rely on convenience foods very little.This used to save us a lot of money,not so anymore.

My daughter picked chockcherry for me to make jelly out of.
I cooked them down and canned the juice. I got sugar this
morning and almost fell over. It was $ 7.00 for 10 lbs. The penjel
was $3.00 a box. I guess it was a good thing the cherrys were free.
I got 30 quarts of juice canned. Maybe the sugar aan penjel will
come down this winter.

i live in Aurora Colorado and I can shp at the commisary(military store) and there prices are going up as well..for a 39oz can of Foldgers coffee it's $10.99... we may all have to go on a diet

Prices in PA keep going up in food and gas. I make up my shopping list and try to get what I can at the discount stores and then I try to finish up at Wal-mart. I still spend around $130.00 - $150.00 and it's just my husband and I. I make most of our meals and you just cannot save money anymore.

What also floors me is the prices for cleaning product, detergents, paper products and HBA items.

Our stores in the San Diego area are really going up. Very few coupons that I can
use and gas is going up again. I go to Sprouts but some of their prices are going
up too. I go to the 99 cent store and see what they have. They carry fruits and
vegtables now. Then I finish up at Walmart.

All food Apples to Zucchini have unrealistic prices on them in the grocery stores. Aldi does not accept checks or coupons therefore I find it impossible to shop in Aldi. Harris Teeter and Lowes Food double coupons ,accepts checks, has mark downs so I shop with them. Attempting to make a grocery purchase in Walmart is entering the" Twilight Zone". I only go in Walmarts a couple times a year and I usually end up with the newest cashier.

Maryann, the "good" bread is more costly, but I always try to get the good stuff on sale. 4 dollars for a loaf of bread is really a bad thing. I have a mental limit of under 3 dollars and can usually find something at Hy-Vee for that. I always get 100% whole wheat or whole grain. You can get fluff white bread a lot cheaper but I never buy it

I think grocery prices are highest on both coasts than they are here in the middle of the country. I have a sister on each coast and they will report prices. Also when I visit I can compare. I read the weekly ads and make my list from that. I have the coupons for the stuff on sale and am able to save quite a bit. Today I saved nearly 50% on my groceries. My Gerbes/Kroger store was running a great sale on some General Mills cereal and granola bars and I also had coupons for all of them. I ended up getting each box of cereal and granola bars for 88¢ each.
I don't know what's happened to sugar. Used to be able to get the 4 lb (no 5 lb in this area) on sale for 99¢. Now it is on sale for $1.99. Good thing I stocked up even when I didn't need it.

It seems like the old sale price is a thing of the past now. I am lucky to find items that claim to be on sale for the price that used to be the regular price. It just means I will ONLY buy items on sale. If it does not go on sale, I will probably stop using it.

Pat, I'm sure the stores don't like people like us. They post the sales hoping we'll buy something else. I very seldom buy something that isn't on sale. Even better is on sale plus a coupon.
We shop some at Aldi's and I've noticed they raise their prices by 10¢. You can't remember if the price was 69 or 79. I guess that's what they are hoping. Of course they don't take coupons there, but there's only certain things I get there anyway.
