i have a gas range, because thats what i like and when purchasing my home i had my dryer and range changed to natural gas.

a few days ago when my grand nephew who used to be my asst came over to bake cookies--i was giving him some other recipes---------he has gone off to college and shares an apt with one other guy who also likes to cook---------------he told me he didn't think he could make --------whatever--------at his apt because they didn't have a real oven and he didn't think it would--------after some questioning i finally figured out they have an electric range-----------------he had never seen one before---and nothing had cooked properly for them------i explained how to go buy an oven thermometer and determine the correct temp to use for that oven

I really like my electric stove. I had a gas one before and you have to
get used to cooking with electricity. The stove doesn't cool down when
you turn the fire off like on a gas stove.

I like gas,if the power goes out even though it has electric ignition it can be lit with a lighter and I can still cook.Electric is good too.My mom had electric, that is what I learned to cook on.It's a matter of personal preference.

When I moved to rural Missouri there was no gas available so I was forced to take those coiled metal burners thing.
Oh, how I hated it.
Moving into town 3 years ago I bought a flat top and I've learned to love it.

I have used both gas and electric stoves.  Each has its' own techniques for best results.  My sister-in-law had an electric stove in one house she moved in to and thought because it was a "builders special" that it should be top of the line.  That builder had used the cheapest available and it was bad, baaad.  When I looked at it I could see why, there was a minimum of coils per burner - took forever to build up enough heat to boil water!  She thought all electric stoves were like that.  What a pity.
My own stove is electric smooth top and I really like it.  It isn't quite as fast as the open coil one I had previously but I love the convenience  of the ease of cleaning.
I also dislike the open flame of gas - I'm pyrophobic!

I just noticed the "other" catagory.  I use my microwave for a lot of cooking chores.
I can also cook on a campfire, use a camp stove, have cooked on an old-fashioned coal-burning cookstove. I had fun using a solar cooker ar one point.  If it will get hot, I can prepare a meal!  (assuming groceries are available)

I prefer gas for cooking, but since I live in an apartment complex which is all electric, I have an electric range.

I had an electric stove and oven in my first house.  Boy, was that hard to get used to.  Luckily the current house has always had a gas stove and oven.  If the power goes out it can still be lit, which is a blessing.  At least we can still heat up water or cook something.  If all else fails, there's always the outdoor charcoal grill lol.

But, yes, it's all in what you are used to using.

I have an electric.  The stove top is a smooth glass top one.  The oven has a convection option. The house we moved from had an electric oven.  I disliked it very much.  It was very small and very old. When we moved to this house it had the electric as well.  Larger and nicer.  I will change to gas when this one goes to the big oven graveyard.
If I were to select my "ultimate" it would be a gas cooktop, electric oven.  I think the baking of the electric is more even but I like the  control of the gas burners.

I have a gas stove.  The only time I ever had an electric one was when I was in a small apartment many years ago.  I prefer the gas one.

When we purchased this house, it was newly built 39 years ago, they were going to put in a gas stove.  I wanted an electric stove with the smooth top.  This is the second one we have had.  I love it.  Wouldn't have any other.  Growing up my Mother always had gas.  I prefer the electric.

Well - back on the farm with mother we had wood.   When I was in the 7th grade we moved to town and had gas.  I always liked and wanted gas but, as I said, now I'm sold on those glass top electric ranges.   They are so clean and slick.

I have an all electric Kitchen in this house, but in our vacation condo at Lake Tahoe we have a gas stove.  I can deal with either one, but I like the electric oven the best.

My daughter re did her kitchen several years ago and put in a big expensive Wolf Gas Stove.  She liked the top 6 burners, but the ovens are awful..never baked evenly.  The big trend now is a mixed energy situation.  Range top is gas and the separate ovens are electric.  She also had problems with her GE profile refrigerator and another sub zero refrigerator.  Needless to say she learned a lot about remodeling.  She says that the best thing she did was to put in 2 dishwashers.

I learned to cook on a gas stove, and prefer it over electric. I have never been able to cook or bake successfully using electric. As for the microwave, I am a microwave cooker, not a heater. When I got my first microwave in the 1970s, I spent 6 months teaching myself how to cook in it. The only thing I don't like from the mic. is baked goods.

Wow Verlee -- wish you lived nearer so I could watch you and learn some microwave cooking !!

My electric range is beautiful and cost a lot.  But the oven is 'uneven' -- I take every single cookie sheet
out of the oven about half way through and turn it around otherwise the cookies on the back part of the
sheet would be over done before the front part was finished.
