Ours has been going on periodically for about the last two weeks. Only 50 for a high here today in northern Illinois. Break out the hot chocolate LOL!

I GAVE IN , IT WAS IN THE LOW 30'S...I'AM WEARING A THICK SWEATSHIRT AND WOOL SOCKS. I KEEP IT LOW MOST OF DAY UNTIL EVERYONE COMES HOME.THEN I START COOKING/ BAKING IT WARMS UP THE KITCHEN.

When you are in your 70's as we are, ours is set on a thermostat and it comes on when it gets colder than 68 in the house during the day. It is set for 55 at night, and comes on whenever it gets colder than that. Old people get cold easier.

Barbara - I've set my thermostat at 68 but I leave it there day and night.
For the chilly time of a shower I use a little space heater in the bathroom. My cats love that thing too.

Hi Marie - if I could vacation anywhere in the country I'd choose NJ - southern NJ. I write to several decoy carvers who live there and, oh, how I would love to meet them and watch them work.
IMO the best decoys in the world are carved in southern NJ.

I broke down and turned on the furnace last night as it was only 52 degrees in the house. I turned on the furnace and set the temperature to 58 to take the chill out of the air - and it was comfortable. PLUS I started a small fire in the wood burning fireplace - love fall weather :)

Funny you should ask this question.....we don't have a furnance...we have 2 heat pumps instead and just last night we turned them on for the first time. I miss our NY basement and good warm heat. Here in NC it's heat pumps that feel more like a/c units!!

We got a whole new system this summer when our air conditioner coils were leaking. We have new furnaces, a.c. units and thermostats. Yes our furnaces are on. Hopefully more efficiently as the project was quite expensive. It has finally cooled down in Arkansas. Mary Ann S.

I guess I will have to run the heat this weekend in middle Gergia. Temps are supposed to get down to freezing then back up to 60's. Hope they don't jack up the electricity rates. If the Cap and Tax law takes effect I believe the quote was "it will necessarily make utility bills skyrocket". Thanks Barrack...

I am still waiting. It was 61 in here yesterday but went up to 65. Maybe when it goes down to the 30's. Trying to hold off do not want a high electric bill. Have had a/c off for awhile now.
