Well - I'm very proud of myself - I did it.

Have you done that yet?

Congratulations, Nancy!!! Good job!! That is the best time to do it...then you always remember when you did it! Fortunately, we don't have to change the batteries in ours any longer as our smoke detectors in our new house are electric. The worst part of that is when you burn something in the oven or something runs over in the oven, you can't take the batteries out of the detector while the smoke clears!! But we did have working smoke detectors with batteries in them in our house that burned to the ground 11 years ago this month. That night is all too vivid in my memory yet!!!

Mine too at this apartment, do not need changing. And sometimes that bright light gets to you you think someone is staring at you, lol. Have one in both bedrooms and one in hallway. Woo hoo for you Nancy, you go girl.

Well --- I'll be.  I have never lived in a place that had battery-free smoke detectors.  I didn't even know such a thing even existed!!
And my condo was built in the late fall of 2008 ... I moved in Dec. 3,2008.   Why doesn't a place like this have the battery-free ones?
I'm sure going to ask that.

Yours has a bright light, Sharon? Ours just have a little red light....I never even notice it really. So your bright light is like "Big Brother" watching, huh?! LOL!!! But oh my, when they go off, they sure do make a lot of noise! And when our power blinks on or off, they give a shrill squeal. We have one in each of the bedrooms as well as in the hallway between the living room and dining room and one in the room just off the kitchen.

I'm surprised, Nancy, that they didn't install the electric ones there if it was built in 2008. When we rebuilt, we were told New York State now had a law that the detectors had to be electric.....I guess for the simple reason that a lot of people forgot to change batteries in the other ones. And don't feel bad....I didn't know they existed either until then!!
