We put up feeders( seed & nectar ( a few years ago.Hubby swept up seeds daily.
I got such pleasure from watching the lovey  feathered creatures enjoy their meals & treats. NEW Condo rules do not allow bird feeding( attracts mice/rats/ squires& other vermin)
We were fined  even though hubby was faithfull in cleanup  task."Ifwe were allowed, other less diligent people wouldfeel entitled to put out feeders( attracting propetry damaging  &health risky vermin.I argued that nectar doesn't attract vermin since it  9unlike seeds) remains high up  &  out of reach. The subtle difference between seed & nectar feeders was more than our  ego driven board of directors could follow. Theydidn'twantto add a qalifying line to the NEW condo rules
So NO! we no longer  put out hummer (or other) feeders

Years ago,my Mom, in Oregon, put out hummer feeders. To her surprise Surprised& delightCoolLaughing she actually got a few customers.I was visiting& had never before seen a hummer ( except in a zoo display) They were so tiny & lovelyI hatedto leavethem& return home.Hubbypurchaseda nectar feeder& installed it.we doubted our cooler weather  would provide hummers; but we hada few, beforeNEW condo rules made All bird feeders  forbidden!Frown
All my efforts to persuade a rule clarication( to allow non seed feeers) failed.I sure miss  those lovely creatures; but not mowing lawns; weeding & shoveling snow as in a
private dwelling where we could hang feeders & attract birds. We do have a pond w/ ducks & geese so I am not totally w/o g-d's creatures to delight me .SealedSmile

Ann - where I used to live I never had less than 7, sometimes more, hummer feeders .. .. daily I made nectar in a big soup kettle.
One time I cut out flower shapes from construction paper and pinned them over my t-shirt and in my hair.  Out in the yard I was a major attraction- lol.
Once I went out, walked under a couple feeders and sent them all scattering.  I stood under a feeder and, reaching up, set 6 fingers on 6 nectar holes.  I stood there for just a few minutes and those little things came roaring back.  In a bit I had 6 setting on my fingers!!  They sat there eating!  They sat on me!!
The feeder had 8 holes and those had hummers too.  I stood there bawling with joy ..... I stood until my hands, arms and legs were asleep.
That was an experience I'll never forget.

We have a Hummingbird Feeder up, but we haven't had any takers yet. .  I don't think that they have come back from wherever they migrate yet.  When our agapanthas are in bloom, we need several feeders.  They are very territorial birds.  When they are around and feeding we see them chasing each other away from the feeder.  We can see the feeder from our kitchen window, so we keep pretty close track of what is going on.
We used to have a bird feeder, but then we had trouble with squirrels raiding the fe eder.  So, then we bought a special feeder that kept the squirrels out.  That worked fine, except the Blue Jays were very picky as to which seeds they liked, and spread the rest of the seeds all over the ground.  That attracted rats, so we gave up on that.

I had a hummingbird feeder once.  We hung it on the ash tree right in front of the kitchen window.  Unfortunately the winds were so bad that year that all the nectar was spread on the tree, attracting millions of ants.  Needless to say I am not allowed to do that again lol.

I don't put any seeds out or feed hummingbirds.  But my Dad has a feeder & I fill that for him.  I was attracting mice with the seeds, so I had to give mine up at home.

Nancy, Wow!! What an awesome experience to have! We have hummingbirds that feed off flowering bushes
in our area. My husband put a bird feeder on our bedroom window awning. The cats look thru the curtains to
watch the birds! They sit there real quiet and make chattering noises!!! It keeps the cats out of trouble and the
birds get to eat! lol! lol!

No, I do not.  We have a garden and I am not sure what would happen if I did.

We have five different types of feeders to attract different birds; the woodpeckers enjoy suet all year long and there are several different species of them to watch - delightful.  We also put out a nectar feeder for the hummingbirds, but since we have trumpet vines and other varieties of flowers that they enjoy, we are more likely to see those tiny "hummers" there than at the feeder.  My cats, too, sit at the window and watch the birds feeding...what a joy!

We enjoy feeding the birds, as well.  We've had woodpeckers of several varities, hummingbirds, cardinals, blue jays, bluebirds, chickadees, sparrows, finches of various types, doves and a few other types of birds.  We have woods at the edge of our yard and I think that helps to add to the different types of birds that come.  We've been trying to attract orioles but so far, no luck with that.  We've put the oriole feeder with jam and fruit out three years in a row now, but no luck to date!  We get so much pleasure from the nesting bluebirds.  For the past two years, they've laid five eggs each season and all five have hatched.  That makes 7 birds in that little bluebird box!  Talk about close quarters!!!

Kelly - a little plastic container that holds water will keep ants away from a hummer feeder.
Look at these:
http://www.duncraft.com/index/page/category/category_id/7/category_chain/1,7/name/Hummingbird+Feeders/
You can probably find some of these at your local store.
They're easy, very easy and work like a charm.  I have used them for years and never had a problem.
I know they aren't inexpensive but they will last year after year.
