 What was your favorite games to play as a child? Mine were (and some still are) hop scotch, Scrabble, dolls, a game called Racko where you have cards and whoever gets them in order first wins,

What was your favorite games to play as a child? Mine were (and some still are) hop scotch, Scrabble, dolls, a game called Racko where you have cards and whoever gets them in order first wins, hide-n-seek and tennis. Do you remember sing-songing some verses with hopscotch & other games?

Jacks, pick-up sticks (jack straws), hide-and-go-seek, dress ups, war with cards, Go to the Head of the Class game, hop scotch, jump rope, especially double Dutch, to name a few.

I loved to play with my dolls,checkers and Chinese checkers.We played with our dogs a lot,probably more than our toys.

I remember Racko. We used to play it with my parents. They were great about playing board games with my sister and me. We also played Chinese checkers, Parchesi and Clue
Sister and I would get a neighborhood kid to come over so we could do double jump rope. with single we tied the other end to a tree. Hopscotch was good as our driveway was level dirt and we could scratch one in easily.
Indoors we played dolls, paper dolls and made jigsaw puzzles.

we played hop-scotch too, hide/seek, jump rope, jacks, pick-up-sticks, house, paper dolls, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes,chinese checkers, battle, old maid,canasta, we also tried to stage a lot of acting scenes and sing and i've always liked to read

My favorite was 2 trips to Disneyworld & 1 trip to Cape Cod, MA. Many other favorites were Chinese jumprope, we used a kitchen chair or 2 if playing by myself or with just 1 friend. Other things were writing down all the songs on the weekly top 40 radio show on Sunday mornings (for no real reason other than we all did it!). Tiger Beat, Teen Beat, etc... magazines to plaster bedroom walls with posters.
Girl scouts & 1 week at girl scout camp. Rollerskating (outside & at local rink, softball team---Go Orioles!!! Board games- American Dream, Mystery date, Payday, Stratego, Clue, Parcheesi , Euchre (my Grandpa taught me how to play when I was 4!!!!), going to the local park to make crafts, build large float for huge Parks Parade at end of summer & Parks Olympics. (all the city parks competed for best floats & in Olympics.
Lots of swimming & bike riding, slumber & birthday parties. Going to movies & drive-ins (Grease, Rocky(s), Smokey & the Bandit, Saturday Night Fever, Star Wars, etc...way too many to list

), bowling league, zoos, long sightseeing drives with my grandparents to end up at museums, malls, restaurants, several different amusement parks every summer, Having a Muscular Dystrophy carnival every summer, going to Niagara Falls & sightseeing in Canada. We lived about an hour drive to the Falls.
Going to the NY State Fair & seeing Shaun Cassidy in concert with my little sister & my grandparents. Tons of carnivals, lawn fetes , festivals, etc...
I was in Drum & Bugle Corp, so tons of practice & parades & field competitions. Wow, so many things--barbies, swingset, stone school, kick the can, look out jag (tag type games). I am probably forgetting a lot of the fun stuff I
I had a lot of stuff to do as a kid! Sure wish I could turn back time for my kids & now my grandkids. They never had near as many things to do. Sad the way the world has changed for kids growing up today.

We played "Canny, Anny, Ann...You all come in". Don't know if that was made up in our neighborhood, or if it was known outside of our perimiter. Hopscotch was popular...spent hours throwing that little stone! My older brother & his buddies, and me and my gal friends would play "war". The guys were the soldiers and we girls were the nurses....had a couple of tents....one was for snacks and the other was the hospital. Keep in mind, this was about 65 years ago.....so, I don't really remember all we did. I do remember we played a lot of Monopoly, and as we matured(?) we switched to Conasta. Aaahhh, to be young again!!

Oh! I got reminded about some of the things that I liked too! Like the Chinese checkers, Chinese jump rope, pick-up sticks, paper dolls. Wow Peg! Your parents were really involved in your life. You were so lucky! I've enjoyed reading all the posts here. And Mary, you're welcome for reminding you! Do any of you remember sing-songing verses though? I can't recall any exactly and it's making me crazy! Shows I'm getting old! Something about when on pavement don't step on a crack or you'll break your mothers' back and another one about did you want to marry a police, farmer or Indian chief among others I can only remember in parts. Hummm...

I remember playing jacks, jumping rope, hop scotch, hide and seek, and others outside. Inside we played dolls, and paper dolls, also Chutes and Ladders, and other board games. My sister was 7 1/2 years older than I, but she was very patient with me even when she had other interests. We didn't have many kids that lived close by, but had lots of friends at school. My mother said that I cried when I came home from Kindergarten the first day because I didn't learn to read. I've always loved reading!!

GREAT QUESTION; Brought back many good memories.I loved travelling rom NYC,by car. bus train: especially to visit my Nana;..Once there (Philly) I went to sitesee w/ her to sight see the Liberty Bell; a park filled w/ topiary trees ; restaurants where wer she knew the cook/chef who came out to meet me bring a special treat from hiskitchen( baked aples tiny cakes & BIG cookies
I loved to ride my bicycle to CONEY ISLAND ( BEACH, BOARDWALK SKI BALL& NATHAN'S HOT DOGS & FRIES; having worked u a good appetite pedaling for an hour & stor up energy for the ride home
At summer camp I liked walking the several miles to theGENERAL store where we bought $.05 cokes from a machine w/a bottleopener on the outside of it, & nickle fudgecicle barsand 3 ft paper trips stips of "dots" I think they were alled "ots" sugardots we shared amongst us all.
We also stopped at the dairyfarm to watch thecows come in for milking& shyy watched the milking process.I wouldcanoe up to the farside ofour little lake& limb upthe hillyp pck bluberries some of which made it back to thecamp kitchen for making pancakes,fruit plates & improving our morning bowls of cereal

values enjoyed the whole gift shoppimg ing experienc,

Ann, you had it good growing up. Perhaps you might of thought it boring (as kids do) but I think it sounds nice!
