Very interesting question.  As I think about it I have lots of gadgets but if any one of them went missing I don't think I would have to run out to replace it.  Exception...yesterday I needed my instant read meat thermometer and realized it is in the old house on the back of the stove with a few other things that have yet to make it here.
A heavy rubber band or the wrist bands so many people wear are great for opening jars or I do have a little "lifter" that you place on the edge of the lid and lift it lifts the lid just enough to break the seal but not enough to bend or dent it.
I don't think I would give up my crock pot, pressure cooker, Kitchen Aid or Nesco Roaster but as Nancy said I don't know if they are actually "Gadgets" (although they may have been 50-75 years ago).

Gale - I have to go looking for that!
This site has caused me to buy so many gadgets ..... for example - the pastry cutter that I haven't used yet.
My food processor is by Kitchen Aid .... I use it pretty rarely but when I do - It's perfect, absolutely perfect.

Nancy, I have a big double drawer where I keep all my sometimes things in and a small drawer for all my all the times things in by my little work table or prep table what ever you want to call it.I keep all my spatulas and whips and cooking utensils in a small crock right on my table so I don't have to run around too much.I have my huge old commercial mixer that was my Mom's and my son bought me a small hand mixer for Christmas that is a kitchen aide also but so perfect for small jobs,it's great for mashed potatoes ,no lumps ! He also bought me a food processor, which I use often and a great set of stainless steel mixing bowls with non slip rubber on the bottom and lids that fit them and I think I use those bowls just about everyday.I have so many kitchen things it's unbelievable.I have been looking for those spreaders for some time now and couldn't pass it up for the price.Do you have Marc's Discount stores in your area? I'm not sure if that is just an Ohio based company.I find a lot of neat things there.

I have several favorites.  I use my OXO tongs constantly, I also like my microplaner , but I think I like my Cuisinart food processor the best.

I have a neat little thing I don't know what to call it.  It is used as a whisk but is a coiled spring that is wider on the bottom and narrows as it goes to the top.  It is perfect for beating an egg as you just mash it up and down.  I don't know where I got it and have never see another one.

I think my fave/most used ktchen gadget is my heavy duty metal egg slicer.I use it to slice& chop hard boiled eggs; raw mushroms & ripe  strawberries. The plastic one I had fell apart in these uses but my metal onehas served me for over 5 years.I have a food procesor w/ slicing disc  but go to the old egg slicer for convenience & ease.

I didn't know there was a tool for opening the cans with the little ring.  I really don't like those as they are fingernail ruiners.  I usually stick a spoon handle under them and curse the manufacturer.

I do use my small off set spatulas quite often and for more than just frosting a cake.  So I guess that would be one of my "must have" gadgets. One of many gadgets that would be a favorite....

Ahhhhhhhhhh SPATULAS!!!   Thanks Nikki.  I couldn't bake one batch of cookies without a good spatula.
Sometimes two or three spatulas.
