My two favorites are Wal-Mart and Publix.  Mu daughter lives in Alabama and they have an Aldi which is great.  What are your favorite places to grocery shop?

This sounds strange but for a lot of the pantry staples try  Dollar General or I think there is Family Dollar in some areas.  Most carry name brand items and they will accept coupons.
I always check expiration dates, I do that in any store though, and I have found items in some of the dollar stores that have been discontinued or I have not seen in other stores.

GRANA here;
I'
m nolonger loyal to any one store; I shop thewholesale club store when I have coupons on items tha tI need &they are also ls offering store cupons on ( they let you use both& it can be a BIG savings; especiallyover regula rgrocery store's egular prices w/o coupons.
One week, my friend & I shopped together, pooled our coupons. Our total was over $150 & after coupons ( theirs & mfr; we ended up paying  only$54.we got meats, nonfat, cholesterol free egg roduct, , r.t.b. cookie dough, cling type freezer wrap, cat food( canned& dry laundry detergent  & personal care/ grooming items. Her then fiance was   pretty  impressed ed by the trunkload  of
" stuff "we got& had to se the receipt to believe lieve e paid only $54;  . shared.($27 each)
Thise eek, hubby& I shopped after their own coupons expired, bought only half the items on my list & saved $21 ( w/ mycoupons) over their regular prices.Compared to the grocery store, we paid about half price forcat foo( canned& dry); cat  litter and 18 bars ofwhole rain trail mix bars w/ whole, dried cranberries & raisins ; laundry detergent,   a dozen multilti grain fork split "lite" English muffins;  24 reduced fat cheesesticks, 24 cupsof  light  yogurt
Had hubby'spatience & my energy held out, ouuldalso have gotten 24 cans ofsoup for under $5  $2.79 each in grocery story. It's a pre packed assortment but we like them all
I was loyal to one store for40 years untill they stoped stocking  advertised sale tems insufficient quantity; acceptingFREE COUPONS  andgeneraklly taking the fun outofshoppingtherfun ou of shopping there.Theclub store  is further away( 7 miles vs 1/4mile) & is so BIG  that it's tiring to shop there but it's  less trouble than having to ffght every time we shop.
Somehow paying less $$$$ is energizing .I like gooing to thef farm stand forffresh local produce w/o the retail markup. They to have amarked down area
One weeek I  got a large  egplant, a bag of  mushrooms,  a ew zuchinni i& a flat of plum gtomatoes toes ; enough or a Qt of ratatouille for less  than$2.Hubby& I shared the job of cutting things,I put  up  for theBIG pot of rataouille uille&I took turns w hubby to stir t every half hour or so.
Another weekIgot a BIG sack of fresh fava beans, which ich I  had never seen before; for about $1.25 The clerk gave me her recipe &hubby& I  both enjoyed a  delighful meal w/ lots of  lefovers for about$1; snce already had heother ingredientsd @home:onions,galrlic, broth  & herbs. My fave grocery store ever was the FARMER'S mkt in Los Angeles. My Father was a baker there many yearsa go &  peope whop knew him then passed messages & gave FREE e treats to us.There were butchers bakers, green grocers; ice cream places al first quality ; FREE samples&  low prices. It' a tourist place but when they learned who I was they treated   hubby & me like  family, a really nice exeriencenice experience I shop wherever ereever I get tgreat QUALITY, SELECTION& PRICEE   No storein this area offers al that consistantly. If w are in the area( one hour south;i like t shop @ WHOLEFOODS ;holegrains, spices & legumes soldby the  oz.or pound of healthier food hices;  even some convenience foods ( stuufed fresh fish readyto bake in a container(included)s than IpayD'ALESANDROS;fish that I have to wait in line to have cleaned
In Boise,Idaho liked to shop @ 'alesandrs supermkt, clothing wa sold & sho repair  done, right there.
LovelyCalif produce; mearts & a good selection o  dairy tems( cheese shop; best in the area.Back then, hubby was  paid per diem money was not a concern; I coud buy whatever  fresh OR
conniencei tems we wanted& not be  concerned about hprice; never an error in ringing up eitherSmile
InSan Digo, ALPHA BETA a gave anyitem fre that rang up incorrecty; itrrrely hapened so shopping was lses stressful Of course fresh California produce was  alwys available at prices that caused sticker shock when we moved toNewEngland, where most produce s brought in from elswhere;  most of the year. Lower quality @ higher prices is the"norm"on theEastcoast; bu the work  thic usedto be superb!

I love Publix (where shopping is a pleasure), Whole Foods and a local mom & pop market called Joseph's.  Joseph's deli counter sells 'turkey off the frame' which is about as good as my Thanksgiving Day turkey.  You just have to ask when the turkey breast was made.  More than a day old and it gets too dry!

Fun question.

I'm really liking GFS (Gordons Food Service) Every Sunday there is a flyer from them in the paper.I don't know how many states they cater to but if you have one in your area check it out. They sell in larger quantity and the quality is wonderful. If you spend fifty dollars there is a coupon for $5 off. This week they have ham and turkey sold in 2# bags for $6.99 that's $3.50 a # That's about  $3 a pound cheaper than most grocery store here in my area.I bought a 5# box of burgers for $11.95 and that is about $2.40 a pound I can't buy ground beef for under $3 a pound .Check it out if there is one in your area.
