I was looking for something a bit different this year to do with the eggs and this is what I found. I help out every year when the library has an egg hunt for the kids. In the morning the kids get to help do the dye and in the afternoon they go hunt for them. It's fun to watch. They'll like this I think!

KOOL-AID Tie-Dye Easter Eggs

KOOL-AID Tie-Dye Easter Eggs recipe

What You Need

2
env.  (0.13 to 0.16 oz. each) KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix, any red color (try Cherry, Black Cherry, Strawberry or Tropical Punch flavor)
2
env.  (0.14 oz. to 0.15 oz. each) KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix, any orange color (try Orange, Mango or Peach Mango flavor)
2
env.  (0.13 oz. to 0.23 oz. each) KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix, any yellow or green color (try Lemonade, Piña or Lemon-Lime flavor)
2
env.  (0.22 oz. each) KOOL-AID Unsweetened Drink Mix, any blue color (try Mixed Berry or Ice Blue Raspberry Lemonade flavor)
1/2
cup  water, divided
1-1/2
doz.  hard-cooked eggs, cooled

Make It

MIX contents of 2 (same-flavored) KOOL-AID envelopes with 2 Tbsp. water in 6- to 8-oz. container; stir to dissolve drink mixes. Repeat in 3 separate containers with remaining KOOL-AID envelopes.

PLACE eggs on cooling rack in sink; rinse eggs with tap water.
step 3
SPOON KOOL-AID mixtures, 1 at a time, over wet eggs to create tie-dye patterns. Repeat with remaining eggs.

step 4
POUR a little tap water over each egg to set colors. Use tongs to transfer eggs to paper towel-covered baking sheet to dry. Rinse sink immediately as needed.

Kraft Kitchens Tips

How to Make Solid-Colored Easter Eggs
Pour contents of 1 envelope of each KOOL-AID color into separate 10- to-12 oz. container. Add 2/3 cup water to each; stir to dissolve drink mix. Use spoon to place 1 hard-cooked egg in each cup, keeping egg submerged until desired color is reached. Continue with remaining eggs. Let dry as directed above.
Special Extra
Place assorted rubber bands around hard-cooked eggs before dipping in cups of KOOL-AID mixtures; let dry completely before removing rubber bands. For a two-tone effect, dip the dry colored eggs again in a lighter-colored prepared KOOL-AID.
Substitute
Experiment with other KOOL-AID flavors for different color patterns.

Gale I've been having trouble sleeping lately too. I've had three hours in two days! I'm about to knock myself out with my black cast- iron frying pan! You would think I would have more time to do things then but I'm too tired to do more than necessary. Remember if you have trouble sleeping I stay up at night and we could talk about antiques and Indians!! I'm on and off my computer all night with watching shows and movies and talking to you ladies! I have just bought the game Scrabble to do on here too. I've liked that game since I was a kid. Have you ever played Scrabble? Laughing I don't have any grandkids and most likely won't as mine have decided to stay single and to not have kids. They are both in their early 30's so I guess I believe them. I started looking forward to that when they were about 10 years old but...oh well! I had started saving things when the kids were done with whatever it was and I was thinking that their kid might like to see what their mommy had when she was young. And I was collecting books to read to them. Oh well.

It's too bad that colored eggs won't taste like kool-aid flavors. Kids would really like that I think. Don't you?

Just saw the latest picture of your two babies! Do they sleep with you in your chair at night? LOL! Is there room ?  :)

Mary Ann-I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. Who would've thought doing this with Kool-Aid!   Nellie-Yes, I got your kool joke you funny lady!  :)  I'm glad that you dye the eggs even if alone! Many people give up doing things when the kids grow up. As for sleep maybe it's still the time change with some of us? I don't know but I finally took a Unisom and slept for 13 hours straight! YAH!!   Sara-Sounds like fun to do with the girls. I'm having fun tomorrow with kids at the library doing this. I guess you and I will be doing "the Kool-Aid thing!"   Mary L-I don't know how dark the eggs will be as this is the first time But I think that it's like the other dyes-the longer you leave it there the darker it will be. Yes, the egg coloring kits to do with vinegar really stink! I usually clean my coffee pot at the same time as might as well REALLY use vinegar! To clean the coffee pot I run white vinegar through. The water here is hard water and leaves mineral deposits.

Did it take you very long to do? I'm on my way to color eggs with the kids at the library and they hunt for them later and I'm bringing the Kool-Aid. In fact gotta go. It's 9:50AM and they are starting at 10:00.

vicki,
we were trying for camo, so I told him we should dye the whole egg  in one solid  color to start, like orange but he wanted brown    so we mixed black cherry and orange first and then added grape to get that nice color    then he had a problem spooning the paint on (the blue stripes)     and started rolling the egg in that mix in the cup worked better
green is lemon-lime mixed with lemonade
blue is ice blue raspberry lemonade
pink is pink lemonade
rosy ones are when we added strawberry to the pink lemonade

I used 2 pkgs in each cup  w/ 2/3 cups water for dying so they are brighter than if I had followed the recipe

I think it would probably be easier to mix with hot water   with cold it took a lot of stirring
my g.s. didn't stir his as well as I did   so he got a kind of granular substance on some parts

we also put newspaper in cookie sheets and put the cookie racks in them  and  worked on my island countertop            when we finished     we set the rack over the sink and lightly sprayed w/ my pull up sprayer  and then set them back over clean papers in the pan to dry
we didn't have a mess at all     I only have one spot on my hand

depending on the ages of the kids you'll be working with tomorrow  a paint brush for each color  or sponges might work better

Vicki, I wish I had seen your post before I colored my eggs this morning.  We have no grandchildren (no children, a prerequsite) but I do kid things myself.  I make snowmen when there's proper snow and color eggs for Easter.  I'll have to remember that for next year.  I have some old packs of Kool Aid we probably won't drink.

Nellie, my day with the kids went fine! Really a good thing that the parents bring them in old clothes-even though some of the girls didn't like it because they're "girls" and like to dress better! We did the egg dying in the grass with tarps and newspapers put down. Tarps to prevent leaks and not have pink grass and papers on top of that to soak it up. There was a lot of pretty clothes, eggs and hands and finger nails if we didn't catch the kids in time to put the gloves on! Laughing It was really funny and I laughed a lot and some of the kids even had some dye on their teeth! They were the ones that didn't wait to eat until the eggs were dry! I just hope that the "whitening" toothpastes help out with the teeth! I would've taken pictures but I don't own a camera. I don't even own a cell phone yet! I have noticed that the public phones are disappearing though so I will have to get one sooner or later. I'll see if I can get one for you.

In the afternoon I took the smallest ones around to hunt for the eggs-5 and under. Cute! came home with my bad back in sorry shape though with all the bending down helping them hunt. It was worth it!

Hi Vicki,so sorry I didn't see your post until now.I have played scrabble a long time ago. However I'm not too into games or cards.I like to sew, cook and bake.I do can with my sons help and I love to do crafts. You already know I like Indians and antiques.I make my own ricotta cheese and sauerkraut and more recently I made some wine not sure how it turned out yet I have to let it set and age for a year.I love Lifetime movies. My favorite thing to do was take care of my hubby and kids.I just loved being a wife and mommy.I made a dozen eggs and they turned out very nice.this is such a great idea and a lot less $ too then buying dye.My mom said when she a girl they used onion peels and beets and anything that stained to color eggs.My dogs have slept with me since the day I brought them home both were 8 weeks old.I can't sit in the recliner without a lap full of dogs lol.I didn't know how to use a computer until 3 Years ago my brother gave me this lap top because I don't get to go out too often he thought this would be good for me.I actually found both dogs on the internet.I have a cell phone but only out of necessity.I hate technology,I think this is the cause of lost jobs more so than the economy. You can't call anywhere without a computer answering the phone.I don't have grand childen but I do have a grand dog lol..

Gale-I loved being a mommy too and would've loved being a wife if I had married a good guy. I'm pretty much of a homebody. I like doing crafts too with painting things being my favorite. Sometimes the walls end up being my canvas and I paint every few years. I think my worst mistake on that was painting my bedroom walls a soft pink. I never got around to making all my "blue room" things switched over to pink so now I have pink and blue and my daughter says I'm "such a girl!" She's a bit of a tomboy.

I only learned a computer 3 years ago too. I learned to type because I wanted to talk to you ladies. It's funny now because I feel better and more at home typing than writing and I really enjoy just writing. I "took like a duck to water" when I was taught to write! Typing also makes the book writing go faster! As you can imagine!

I don't really play games so much either except for Scrabble.

Yes, I knew about staining the eggs with things other than dye but haven't done it yet. I like the bright colors so much!

You said that Easter was different this year and I agree that it must have really been. You must miss him terribly. I don't have any family besides my daughter and I would miss her so much that I wouldn't know how to go on. I think of you...

Your own cheese and sauerkraut and wine? You are a busy lady! I haven't been in the kitchen much but I realized that it is time to make something yesterday. Have to go shopping first! My daughter thinks that I would forget to feed myself if it wasn't for her. I think that I need to forget feeding myself more often! Smile I'm impressed with your cheese and 'kraut!

I agree that the loss of jobs has been in part because of all the technology. My daughter has found herself without any clients (she's a caregiver) for the first time and she can't find anything out there. Not a gas station or anything.

I will have to keep this in mind for next year.

I love Scrabble but I have no one to play with, the dogs have no thumbs so they can't easily place the tiles and Hana tries to eat them so I have given up!  I have not even tried to teach them cards.

Vicki, I can't believe that there is no work for a caregiver.  I would think that is a job that is in high demand.
Has she tried going to Dr. offices and senior centers and churches to post notices?
Has she tried posting a notice in the paper or even Craig's List?
