Embarassed  Yesterday I worked long and hard baking and preparing lots of other food ... I produced piles and piles of garbage, wrappers, trimed parts from cauliflower. broccoli and lots of other veggies.
This afternoon I turned on the packed dishwasher ... when I downloaded it I saw that the beater for my mixer wasn 't there!!  I searched everywhere but it wasn't here....  So I took a deep breath, a pile of newspapers and a big trash bag and started emptying the trash can.
There was my Kitchen Maid beater ... in the bottom.  Apparently I'd loaded it with a paper plate load of gargabe.
Whew... that will never happen again.

I thought I had lost, or rather I thought my husband had put away the jiggler valve for my pressure cooker.  He will wash the dishes and put things away and sometimes I have no idea where he puts things.  Anyway I looked and looked for that jiggler valve and in desperation I dumped the garbage out and there it was at the bottom of the garbage bag.  Good thing I went looking for it or it would have gone to the curb the next morning.

So Nancy, take heart in knowing that you are not alone!!

Thank God, you both found what you were looking for!

This brought back memories of when my son was little (all right, he was never "little" - came into the world at 12 pounds/24 inches...sigh...) and when he would put his paper plate in the garbage, he would throw his silverware out, too...I tried to remember to check the trash right after he was done eating, but sometimes forgot; we ended up being short quite a few salad forks and teaspoons!  Once he grew up I went shopping for new flatware, and bought a pattern I actually like MUCH better, so it all worked out in the end!

oh that was a close one. I must have done a similar dumb thing too, I can't find a new set of knifes I bought a while back. I was saving them for when we moved.

Oh, don't you just hate that!   What is even worse is searching the trash & it is NOT there.  Then you find the thing nearby under a piece of paper or it slid behind a cannister.  Safe all along, but driving you crazy because you can't take a chance on it being in the trash.  So glad you found the missing items.

I think that happens to everyone at least once in their lifetime.  I think that is how I lost my pierogi molds.

This has happened to all of us at one time or another. The last thing I lost was my ceramic knife sharpener, not an expensive item but it worked well and I use it all the time. Now I do like Rachel Ray does I have a garbage bowl when I'm cooking or baking,I can go through that quickly before tossing out the bowlful of garbage and no more digging through the trash can.Thank you Rachel Ray.

Glad it turned out for you.  If I had a dollar for everytime I have to go hunting for something only not to find where it's supposed to be I would be rich LOL.  We once had to go through all the garbage from Christmas because somebody threw away their present with the wrapping paper!

My niece had a party last summer to celebrate her son's graduation from high school.  It was a great party with lots of adults and kids.  However, when she cleaned up she couldn't find the Cutco paring knife I had given her a couple of years ago.  She went through her trash, and everywhere else she could think of looking.  Finally, she gave up and decided someone ran off with her knife, and of course it was her favorite knife.   I heard the story and decided that I needed to take care of this.  I called my Cutco dealer and ordered her a new one.  I mailed it to her, and received a call thanking me for sending the knife to her.  She said I was the best Aunt anyone could have.( I have my doubts about that, but I was happy I could make her day)  She was planning another party, but said that this time she was hiding her knife!!!!

I'm careful with my car keys (long story there) and ALWAYS know where they are - in my purse.
Checked out at Wal-Mart and could not find my keys.  I really dug through that purse -- no keys.
I emptied purse on the customer service desk to do better search - no keys.
They said they had no keys returned to desk but probably would ... if not the cleaners/stockers might find
them and return to desk.  I left my name and address and went to my truck ...
I had a spare key hidden in the shell and knew I could get into the condo through the garage.

I got home just full of distress and feeling so stupid and hopeless.  I took off my coat to hang and
there were my keys.  My keys were in my coat pocket.

I have a coat that for some reason items fall out of the pockets.  I even bought Velcro to put on the pockets so stuff wouldn't fall out. (can't find the Velcro now..)  I have found my cell phone under the seat of the car because it fell out of my pocket.
