Sorry, cat people, but my pet of choice is a dog, especially a bigger one, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Lab.

I was a dog person, but became a cat lover since they require very little. No need to walk them, you can leave them alone for a day or two and they are loving when you want them. Nothing like sitting in your chair with a soft furry, purring cat. I still do love dogs too!

My first pet was a kitten, after that is has always been dogs(small dogs).  The dog we have now (have had her 6 yr.) Will greet any person who walks in the front door with one of her toys (even if hubby just goes to the mailbox), in warmer weather, she & hubby sit in the garage & she gets visitors, the reg. mail lady will stop & give her a treat, a couple that live a block away, always leave her a treat (even if she is in the house) when they take a walk on our street, a neighbor's grandkids will come over to visit her when they visit the grandparents. She likes to be covered with her blanket when she is sleeping & if she gets up for a drink & I am on the PC, she will come into the room & have me follow her so I can cover her again (or if she needs more water).  She rarely barks (she has not barked so far this month) & has never bothered the bunnies or squirrels in the yard AND she gets along with our bird.

I love all animals and have had all sorts of pets over the years including frogs and even a garter snake that we found when we were kids.I was forever finding wild baby bunnies and birds raising them or nursing them back to health and releasing them back into nature. But my favorites are dogs and cats.I currently have my two pups Romeo and Juliet,I'm totally in love with these two spoiled brats. lol These two are always into something! Over the past two years I lost Kelly my border collie she was 17,Rocky my Jack Russell mix he was 15 and Ditto my cat he was also 15,I was so heart broken.I've only adopted one cat and that was Ditto, the others adopted me.I don't have any cats at the moment but you never know who will show up at my door.I think both dogs and cats are equally loving pets, each and everyone of them have their own personalities. When I'm in my wheelchair the two dogs follow me from one room to another and when I'm in my recliner they are both on the chair with me.I just couldn't imagine not having animals in my life to love and they loving me back.My husband never had a pet growing up,so sad he missed out on alot.He loves Romeo and Juliet.

I like all animals but I'm stuck with cats.   As I try to type Peaches is on the table, curled up against mychest, front paws over my left arm and face pushed into my arm pit.  She looks so uncomfortable and she's purring up a storm.
Her brother Badcat is tearing down the window blinds.

My first pet was a dog, although I think we always had cats MY first pet was my Standard Doxie. I was 1 year old.
I had a German Shepard for 16 years, also had cats and other critters but the dog was "my" dog. When I had to have her put to sleep I said I would never go through that again.  My resolve lasted almost 10 years. (We also had cats during that time, one cat was almost 20 when he passed.  Just sitting on the front steps in the sunshine he just went to sleep.)
But about 10 years after my German Shepard I got my first Mini Doxie she was 2 when I got the second one.  They are a riot to watch.
And I have 3 cats. (Yes I recently "adopted" a kitten that had been a stray and he is awesome! gets along with the dogs and is starting to bring my scared Mittens out of her shell)

So I guess I am an equal opportunity pet owner.  A softie for critters.
That said I am a dog person.

People own dogs, Cats allow people to reside in the home.

What's so very funny about my Badcat is that he LOVES people.  The doorbell ringing brings great joy and excitement.  He HAS ro smell a visitor's breath and the visitor HAS to pet him.

Once a repairman came to see why my thermostat was dead.  Of course Badcat met him at the door and leaped to kitchen counter so he could check out and get in the tool bag.  Badcat tried so hard to make that man pick him up and the man was getting stiffer and stiffer.
Finally I asked if he hated cats and I should take Badcar away.  With a stiff mouth the man said that I should lock that cat away.
After I put Badcat in the bedroom I asked why the man hated cats.  He growled that his wife had a cat that she loved more than she loved him.

I'm a dog lover.  I don't like cats & I & my son are highly allergic!  Cats are unpredictable & use anything as a scratching post. Forget when they're in heat-it's miserable sounding!  I do like kittens-they are cute but that's it for me.  I love dogs & wish all would stay the cute puppies they started out.  They are so cute when they're little

GRANA  here;
I agreew/
NIKKI:"people pople own dogs, Cats allow people to reside in the home"
It s what makes cats so special & endearing to us.When we adopt/rescue our  catsw e always l waitto be"chosen".  It's never failed to be a good match....Understanding cats, as w do we realize that we wll not own them only be allowed to share their lives for a time. When hubby &I first  met; he wasa"dog person" & thought he hated cats( so aloof&indifferent/independant don't are hatyou want!
In our first  5 years of marriage we always had a dog.......I learned to  appreciate their adoration & acceptance no matter what. A neighbor hild had to find homesforhis cat's(unwanted ) babies & begged me to take one before his Dad came home & as promissedo "put them all in a sack w/ rocks & tosss them into the pond'. Hubby agreed to accept the kitten( he was a dog lover not a cat hater) The tiny kitten adopted my husband & became his lap cat.Hubby got angry( at me)" why had I never made him get a cat before?????
They are so sweet &  loving & you can watch the whole movie or game w/o having to go out & walk the dog."[ a couch potato's best friend"]Wink
we then had aseriesof cat& kittens & each belongedto oneofus; neglectingt he other. So e  usually had to have two cats at any given time. Then we gotTasha( a rescued Himallyan who was my cat unlessI wasnot available, then she became hubby's cat .After huby ent deaf, heunderstandably  was les then happy. He needed his own cat to make him feel special. We went to the shelter to see if a cat wanted him.Sonja an older mess of mats not quite uite covering her boney body alowed him to pick her up.She purred loudly w/JOY.My deaf hubby  began to cry w/ JOY"I can hear her purring; she loves me" for en years,Sonja& Tasha each had their fave humans & we were all content, gogether. Then at the ages of 15  both cats showed signs of ilness. The vet ran all kind of tests &  both were diagnosed w/ different types of cancers. a fter  5 YEARS 0f babying them( hand feedingof special treats & lots of cuddling they, in turn passed on."NO MORE" PETS; TOO PAINFULL" to lose  them;became ; lets go see if another cat eeds a good ome.Maestro  &  later Calli chose us.Hubby was the only volunteer at the shelter that Calli alowed to touch her even brushing/grooming  was ccepted. Other volunteers were bitten & clawed ifthey put a hand into her enclosure. One vet strongly suggested that Calli would never be likeMaestro( very sweet& gentle)& might even turn him aggressive too. she would never bea lap cat.Two yars later both gentle & loving cats werelap cats & curl up together on colder  mornings & nights.Cali is hubby's &I am stil lMaaesro's chosen  meowme, though hubby is also accepted. I'm convinced that any domestic  animal given a safe  non-threatening  environment  w/sufficient food & alone time wil  eventually  seek out uman companinship  for brief periods of time.Even ferral ats ats omepoint will be overcome by curiosity & lonliness ?; when unthreatened & left to choose for themselves. Dogs immediately love & accept the hand that feeds them; cats must begiven their space & have their rules accepted. Once that is accomplished, they wilbecome a part of the family as much as any dog. My chldhood pet catTIPPY walked w/ me t, daily, t the store to get that day's charity meat for dinner( usually liverwurst or bologna) It wasa about a 4 block walk( 2 NYC blocks) round trip.We talked the entire trip; me asking questions about what he thought we might get today? & TIPPY chirping back answers at my side.An otherwise lonely child hood errand became  a time of companionship for us both. When other kids excluded me from Jacks orJumprope  (I did not have my own); TIPPY would jump ( on my signal/command through a hoop(an emty picture frame) winning me the admiration & envy of the other kids till I was eventually invited to join in their games .LaughingNo surprise that I've devoted so much of my life to repaying the species for the kindness shown me when I needed it most!

We love both cats and dogs, but we have several cats. Lived on a dairy
farm when I was a kid.  We always had dogs and cats.

HiVERLEE T;  no competition between CATS & BIG  DOGS;Big dogs are noble & loyal in a way catsare just not  That does not make one better than the other only better suited to some people.!
I'veowned a GREAT DANE; A BOUVIER( des flanders) &  several  large heinze mixed varieties.....They were fantasstic pals . But cuddling w/ a giant dog is just not as calming as w/ a furry kittyTongue out

Hi Nancy, this is really sweet.I went to the Mall with my kids they took their old Mom out for the day and we had a blast.I haven't been out shopping for about 5 years.I looked at everything,we stopped and had a coffee.I looked at the designer bags and went right by,no Louis Vuitton for this girl.I have always made sure that my kids came first.Nothing has changed in that respect,we bought our little Juliet a pink Rhinestone collar. She now truly is a Diva lol!
