iIn  NEW ENGLAND, we keep hearing  WARNING(s) about coming SNOWSTORMS
Many folks, choose to ignore the warnings & run out the last moment to stock up on milk & bread.
Others buy  ( well in advance) propane fueled stoves, heaters& lights"just in case"
I try to keep a well stocked"larder" & botles of water year 'round.
I used to have a propane two burner stove but have recenly learned that indoor burning of these can cause asphixiation( sp) /suffucation if windows are kept tightly closed.
Ihave a manual can opener to open those very few  canned  fods& meals,I stock.
Candles & matches all over the house set up in metal( non-flammable) holders .My brother keeps pkgs of military packed emergency [R.T.E. meals always on hand. But w/o Little Debbies, cakes he would still not surviveYellUndecided.
Lots of clean blankets & warm clothing, catfod & litter; coffee tea & cocoa are our "basic survival" items.
Hubby just put in his" two cents worth" : a few good books to read &  cozy blankets to share w/the kitties SmileTongue out

"G-D helps those who help themselves"   suggests to me to have warm clothing &blankets; suitable sourcesof protein, starches & liquid, on hand
I  don't believe we can ignore common sense & expect G-D to bail us out!!!!!!!!!!!

I also tryto havejustenoughsuppliesto help afewfoolishneighborsshould they need help.
I know a few folks who have loaded guns handy to keep needy neighbors from " taking our stuff";  by forceSurprised
This is where" I draw the line" I must trust in G-D to protect me from those wild animals..I refuse to kill or maim another to sustain my own life.
It was different when we had young children in the home; then I we would have done whatever was needed to protect them. My life is no more precious to me than that of another, however unworthy iny eyes they are. It is not my choice as to who is to live or die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My fervent prayer is that I am never "put to the test" to prove that statement!Innocent

I pray about Everything ....
After prayer about this weather condition I stocked 2 cases of canned cat food and one large bag of dry.
I have more milk that I probably can drink in two days and two bags of clementines, lots of good sliced ham and
turkey, lots of microwave food.

IF we lose power (yikes) I have lots of junk and cookies, crackers, chips, cases of diet pepsi and a couple gallons of water in the garage (will they freeze?) I have two big, battery lanterns  and a couple flash lights.
I am at a total loss of ideas if we have a loss of power and they keep harping on that on TV.
This is a new construction area so all power is underground BUT to get into this area it's on old poles through wooded areas.

Hi Nancy,If your power does go out make sure you have blankets, layer your clothing, wear a hat 90% of your body heat is lost through the top of your head.If you have a cell phone make sure the battery is fully charged now so you have it in an emergency.Just stay dressed and cuddled with your kitties you will keep each other warm.Do you have a gas stove, you can use that to cook on,I know that most have an electric ignition but can be lit with matches or a lighter. Most important just stay calm and relax.

Hello gals.  I don't know where you all live but the pictures of Missouri were devastating & guess what?  It looks like that here tonight. It started about 5:00 P.M., the visability is about 2/10 of a mile.  The winds are 40-60 miles/hr. and its coming down like crazy.  They have declared a state of emergency in some of the small towns around here & probably will here in South Bend SOON!
I posted what I did to plan for this, but it's not showing up????   I guess I'll wait to see?

Usually have all the staples handy so when there's warnings, just get fresh milk, eggs, dog food, etc. Also make certain to refill the water jugs with fresh water and have plenty of firewood stacked nearby. A trip to the library for a stack of books is also one of my to-do.

I get some extra bottled water.  But we don't do too much extra.  I know we will be able to get out in a couple days.  I can eat canned soup cold it I have to.  But we have a woodstove that will heat up basics.  The wood stove won't heat the whole house, but it will be enough to keep the pipes from freezing at least for a few days.  The weather here is supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow (in Virginia) so I don't think we will get a lot of snow if the storm tracks this way.  (famous last words?)

Hi Nancy, I hope that everything is alright with you there in MO.I know you got hit pretty hard.We lost power last night for awhile and I didn't even know, until I woke up and the clock was blinking. They finally closed the schools today. My husband just got home from work this morning and he said the roads in our area were not too bad.Only a third of the patients showed up where he works last night. The roads must have been bad last night, where ever they were coming from.

The storm is past us now ... we have some light flurries that won't last.  The temp will go DOWN today.  Right now it's 17 degrees, tomorrow the HIGH will be 19.  The storm has moved noth east -- I hope and pray everyone is safe and comfortable.

I only had rain.  At least so far.  It feels strange for it to be so warm here (already over 50 degrees at 7AM) when so much of the country is having the huge snow storm.  I hope everyone is okay and does not need their storm prep methods.

Our son, his wife and kids are north of Chicago.  Heard they expected quite a bit of snow starting last night.  We moved to SC from Syracuse, NY and I see from the news that they, too, are to get 5-12 inches.  Initially, they were to get quite a bit more but updated reporting makes that less snow fall.  They will, however, be getting the ice and sleet like many of the other states.

Thinking of all of you in the storm's path and hoping it won't be nearly as bad as predicted.

We'll be at 67 degrees today with rain from the edge of the storm that is moving through the Mississippi valley.

Keep food and water on hand.  We already had snow two days ago, more snow yesterday and last night an ice storm came thru.  We have icy roads, accidents galore, trees are loaded with ice.  We live on the side of a mountain and are worried about all of the big trees around us.  We will make it as the Good Lord watches over all of us.  When will Spring get here.  Can hardly wait.

I live in pretty much the same area.  Got quite a bit of snow, about 3 feet, drifts much higher.  It is due to get colder.
I did not do much to prepare, I have quite a bit of stuff in the pantry, in cabinets and in the refrigerator and freezer.  I think we would do ok for several days.  Possibly a week.  Power is the thing though.  With no power we have no water.  (We are on a well.)  But melting snow is fine for flushing toilets.  Stove is electric but got a gas grill that I could use.

Tonight is Bible study at church and I know I can't get there.  I wonder if it will be canceled ......
I think I can get out tomorrow and I'm heading for WalMart to buy more, fresher jugs of water, cans of nuts and things like that.

Like I said - we are getting more snow this Sunday and Monday and I'm going to be more and better prepared.  That snow isn't going to be as bad as this last storm but I'm still going to be better prepared.

I have a summer storm supply of things in the basement and that needs badly to be rotated.
