Daniel the miracle dog????

This is very disturbing and I feel ill just thinking about this,but something has to be done about this.Did any of you see the Yahoo article on the beagle who survived the gas chamber?He was in there with 17 other dogs who weren't as lucky.Why are the humane societies still using such inhumane ways of euthanasia? I know some of you great ladies foster dogs and volunteer at your local shelters ,what can we do to get rid of this horrible practice?

I read about it on the internet! I can't stand to see any animal hurt!! It
really makes me mad that they are still doing this!!

There is a no-kill shelter opening here in Valdosta, Ga. I didn't see the story but am sad about that.

I saw the article...I know that at our shelter, if we need to euthanize an animal (which is only done if there are serious aggression issues or catastrophic illness) we do it gently with the overdose of anesthesia that many vets use, and there are always several staff in the room with the animal to calm it and let it know it is loved...

Angela I agree with you.I don't believe the "Gas Chamber" is a humane way to euthanize,there are much better methods.

Erica,thank you for letting me know about your shelter,I think most are like that but there are still too many that do use the gas chamber method

Hi Erica,I know our animal shelters here in Cleveland do not euthanize any viable animals.They have a 100% record that all viable animals are adopted.Anyone adopting must go through a background check.I have never dumped a dog anywhere and I would be just sick if one of my dogs were lost,both are microchipped.Everyone of my animals have been kept until the day I had to put them down.I just wish that people would be more responsible with their animals.I admire and thank you for your kind work.

I think part of the problem is that people buy animals and then decide they are too much trouble to take care of and feed. It's not just dogs but cats, rabbits, even skunks. When they get tired of the animal they just turn it loose, like the cats and at least one dog I have seen running around our neighborhood.

I know the shelters do a good job of screening people for the most part, but some people should never be allowed to have animals. And I just wonder if that's how this dog ended up in the shelter.

I bet that is what happened to Daniel he was dumped.No one came to claim him.When I was a girl I saw someone dump their dog out on the highway and that poor dog ran after the car and was hit and killed by another car.I'll never be able to get that out of my head.
